No you must be able to "train" and "tame" it.

Yeah exactly the BH people tell me BH is better the Ranger say Ranger, who'd figure? lol
Well BH was what I went for because Ranger was so bugged, but Ranger was more what I do now anyway. Enjoy exploring and pretty much helping people out in the wilderness.

BH sounded good cause of the possibilities now and later. Plus mastering the marksman skills!

I think you hit the nail on the head...

What do you enjoy doing?

Grind the combat experience up to BH and give it a whirl.

Then if that's not fun, give it up and work on Ranger.

Or the other way around.

I personally as you said "like to explore and help people out in the wilderness".

That's what I enjoy doing, thus I know Ranger is a good fit for me.

The beauty of the way they set this game up is, you can change your mind, and do something else if you decide to. I came from EQ where that meant deleting your character, and having to figure out what the best race for you new one was, and hoping the name filters were kind enough to give you back your original name. Which they did do about 99% of the time. (I played on Firiona Vie; You could only have one character there)

It really comes down to figuring out what you want to make your gameplay like.

I also think that you must take into consideration what profession you feel you will get the most longevity out of. If you think that Bounty Hunting NPC's sounds like a dead end after several months or a year then maybe that's not such a hot idea.

If you can envision yourself leading people into the wilderness on hunting expeditions, helping artisans safely get materials from their harvesters, roaming the wilds solo... then Ranger may be the right fit.

I originaly planned to persue BH as I had been doing in beta. Once I started to see the types of people who were factioning in the live game to do PvP and that there were zillions of BH's running around... It just totally lost it's appeal. Then I went for the brawling, which I had also done in beta and enjoyed very much. But the grind didn't appeal to me at all.

With Ranger, I am finding that I can do a myriad number of things while I grind, and enjoy the game a lot more. That sort of solved my "What profession is for me?!?" dilemma I had been facing, and... Well hereI am.

I have managed to make it to 1-3-4-1 in the Ranger tree so far, and almost have half the xp to get to Frontiering IV, and am almost at (3.2K short) of Wayfaring II. And all the while, I have had a blast doing it.

I am really looking forward to getting to other worlds and hunting, as well as hunting all over Tatooine.

Just my 2 cred's worth...

Thank you for such an honest opinion that's what I was looking for some honest feed back. Yeah I'm not sure if killing NPC's for a bounty will be tons of fun, I've never really been into PvP then again never tried it much.

That's a good point you made with changing your mind the game is set up so you can change your mind. Maybe if i can make my mind up, changing it later wont' be as hard.

I'm in a similar situation, but will probably stick with going for master ranger.

Some questions to ask yourself:

1. PvP or PvE?
If PvP, bounty hunter may be your better choice. If PvE, ranger may be your better choice.

2. Did you enjoy the scouting activities and did they become second nature?
If no, bounty hunter may be your better choice. If yes, you will probably enjoy the trek to ranger.

3. Do you enjoy grinding out weapon XP?
If yes, bounty hunter may be your better choice. If weapons aren't your main source of enjoyment, you may like ranger better.

4. Do you like to solo?
You can solo as a ranger, I do. Grouping gains XP faster for rangers. A bounty hunter must solo his marks, so that's something to consider.

I personally like PvE instead of PvP. I usually help my friends when they PvP by setting up camps. I rarely fight, though, because it just doesn't interest me all that much. I enjoy the harvesting aspects of creature killing. I make a good living selling hides, bones and meat. I actually focus on gathering these resources instead of focusing on XP, which makes gathering XP seam to fly by. I set camps when I need to take some down time and make traps. I take harder missions to work my trapping skills. I just like everything about what rangers are, and unfortunately bounty hunters are nothing like I thought they would be. I'm not being negative there, I'm just playing the type of character that I like. Oh, and carbine is my choice of weapon and I am a novice carbineer, too.

You can always give ranger a shot and then make your decision about bounty hunter when you ultimately qualify for it.

Here is a previous discussion that should provide more input:

I've seen a few things such as this with one of my friends did this scout then SL then Ranger then CH, then bounty hunter. He can't make up his Mind.
He ended up going with bounty hunter because he said soo what if I can't harvest more hide than a ranger, i can just kill more of it. He dropped ranger for ch. Which is all go.

What matters the most is not what "we" the community think, its what YOU the guy paying to play thinks.

If the thought of standing in a pack of 8 crimson razor cats and not getting aggro'ed sounds like fun. Then fire at ranger.

Sidenote Ironically Hermit spiders are more opt to hostile me then a razor cat, LOL go figure.

If you enjoy the hunt and the quest for finding hides, trapping, which you discovered in scout, then try it out, 5k credits and your good to go.

Just remember to do what you enjoy.

Sit down and look at what weapons you enjoyed using in quest for Master Marksman, You can always sell back exp for skill points.

Bh's might be the king of pvp, but when you rescue your friend and pop of some bleeders and a couple of headshots.
You get more notice then anyone else.

I'm losing my pistol/ranged support skills as i move in rifleman and Creature Handler.(I just love running out looking for that elusive pet to tame) Ranger Helps alot with it.

I know I've asked this but I want to try and rephrase it.

I need some advice I've asked this a few times but now that I'm right there I really need some profession advice. I've mastered Marksman and Scout, thinking I'd choose BH as a profession. Sure now I still need 40K but that's not a big deal, it's just the endless path to BH.

I did reach novice ranger which has really got me thinking. Is BH totally worth the 40K? Maybe Ranger is a better way to go, though it means Master Marksman was a waste. What you guys think? I just want to know what the Rangers and the BH's think about their choosen professions?

I would think that you will hear the BH's saying theirs is better and for the most part (with the upcoming additions to Ranger) you will hear US saying Ranger is better.

If you want to hunt for bountys and have some droids i wouls say BH is for you.

Ranger to me seems the better choice to get you into the hard to reach spots of a planet...and has some great additions of tracking and concealment coming very soon.

Why not give Ranger a try since you are already here...if you like it you stay...if not you go BH

I hear I can't control two Great Sludge Panther's CL 23 with 1-1-0-3. I was told I would need 4-1-0-3? Can anyone confirm this plz and if it's true explain it.

Nah, for a CL 23 pet that is non aggro all I believe you'll need is 1/1/0/0.
