I think armor is great! Watch the combat chat channel sometimes. My mid-grade ubese stops some hideous punishment. After playing with strength buffs, I can safely say that even a suit of crappy armor stops way more damage than the lost strength and quickness does. Also, the % listed are obviously only the tip of the iceberg for protection. Most mobs don't armor pierce, so Light armor automatically absorbs 50%. Even crappy mabori weave will make a big difference. BTW- don't trust the floating damage numbers, they are easily screwed by even mild lag; lumping multiple hits together and whatnot. Only the combat tab holds the truth.

Real example: A mountain squill hits you for 350 damage! Vigos Ubese jacket stops 120 points of damage.

A mountain squill hit you for 223 damage! Vigos Chitin gloves stop 110 points of damage.

etc...

(LOL - it killed me, but the extreme punishment is a good representation I think of the armor's use)

Ok I know this is wierd to post in the sworsdman forum because this aplies to all of the battle oriented classes (marksman and brawlers), but I am a swordsman so I think most will feel me on this post. I have a suggestion that could maybe help with the problem of melee classes not being able to solo mobs...armor. Don't you find it wierd that a brand new starting character, theoretically, whos starting profession is medic, can wear the exact same armor that you, a master swordsman can wear? I think they should make armor more effective, while at the same time putting certs on it. I dont think a master doctor should be able to wear the same armor a master swordsman wears unless they are a master swordsman as well. And as far as gun users are involved...they should not be able to use the same armor either. They should be able to use armor, just not as protective because they are less likely to get hit...and they need a little more mobility which I imagine armor would prohibit. Im not saying that only melee should be able to use armor....just the REALLY good stuff (like plate armor in EQ)...something that will make tanking a lil more viable. Let the other professions wear armor just liken it to something like leather armor in EQ. I think this would be a major help in balancing characters.

/agree

melee pc should use high-end armor while others should use less encumbrance armor, or even if they put it on-they should go slow as hell so we can reach em and mind2hhit2,mind2handhit1, mindhit3 and they r history

I totally agree with this post...

There should always be class specific armor in any game that keeps crying for balance. I would love to have a suit of armor that marks me as a swordsman. I want to look about a city and know what everyone is:

"See that guy in the scaled plate armor...he's a swordsman."

"See that guy in madalorian armor... he thinks he's Boba Fett."

"See that chick in the reflective kevlar suit....pistoleer"

What kind of armor should i look for in melee combat, specifically unarmed?

Is there any specific stat on armor for absorbing hits from opponents?

My goal is to get to TKA.

If you can find a good armorsmith on your server that can make high resist composite without having to resort to using high HAM layers (the composite on its own is high enough), then you'll want to try getting it all sliced for encumbrance, on Eclipse I have a 53% full suit that all got sliced for encumbrance, and the total HAM usage is about 350 per sub-stat.

Thanks for the support guys...I think that this could help solve the no tank problem this game has fairly easily if implemented properly.

cool, im glad someone brought this up cuz if you think back to other games with armor like: baulders gate, eq, neverwinternights, and so on, you can only use the armor that your class allows. Like if i were a mage they wont let me go around wearing some uber platemail armor!

Great idea guys, lets keep this kind of thinkin up

BS. I'm an Armorsmith/Swordsman. My Sword-Skill was 0-2-0-1 yesterday. I was wearing a 33%-Chitin suit and i could easily solo female plain tusk cats, gurrcats, Swoopers (Corellia) Mamien, even single Klikniks (ok, I had to heal myself repeatedly and eat buffs during combat) (Yavin4).

What else i did was tank for the 22k-Missions on Endor. With a medic or doctor behind me and simply healing me we could take out the whole camps. Whenever we got a single opponent, there was no further problem, maybe eat a mind-buff or two (Teltier Noodles, Exo-Protein Wafers), but it worked. No pets involved for tanking, and their damage didn't really seem to change the thing.

Now 33%-Chitin isn't the big deal with Chitin, a masterly craftedAdvanced Suit may get up to 60% and after Slice maybe even 80%. Now I hardly can imagine a mission you cannot do with that kind of armor (given that your targets do kinetic damage).

Im not saying its not possible to tank as a melee class. I was with a group of three others (a Master Ranger/Master Swordsman, a Master Combat Medic/Master Doctor, and a not quite Master BH) and we took down two Canyon Krayts before we had to log...and none of us died...permanantly (GOD BLESS DOCTORS!!!!). Imsayin that I feel putting certs on armor would in fact help the over all balance of the game. Knights of old didnt just put on a suit of armor forthe first time and run into battle like they had worn it their entire life (sorry for the old example...I know armor in the future is better than your typical plate male)...it needs training just like anything else. And you can't tell me, looking at chitin or composite armor's appearance, that someone without proper training could move effortlessly while wearing it, let alone fight effectively in it.

Dunno if all of you or none of you know about the armor holes bug. But I'm noisey tonight.

Sometimes when people are shooting at you, the shots go strait through whatever full suits of armor your wearing. This is a bug, and can be reduced. This is how you reduce it. Take off all non-armor pieces of clothing or jewlry. Under**edit**s, jewlry, belts, bandoliers, backpacks, everything. It seems the game checks these items for resists when the shots "hit" these items, since they have none the game delivers 100% of the damage to you. Now, weapons are ALSO counted as equiped non-armored items, considering most of you would rather die then try fighting with your meager unarmed skills I would suggest keeping the weapon in hand and sucking up whatever damage you take from it. Yup I know, it sucks. I /bugged it, everyone else should /bug it too.

I honestly don't see how they can fix this problem, not with the way the game is designed now. So it might take a long time before a fix is implemented =/

You guys keep reading the post written by the long winded guy you think is an idiot.

The long winded idiot is going to play the game now. Enjoy.
