All X-Wing games had roll on the Z-axis/"foot rudder" and yaw on the Y-axis. Which is not intuitive and plain wrong. If they insist on keeping that weirdo X-Wing control scheme, I hope they'll allow remapping of the controls, otherwise I'm likely no customer for JTLS. Try to fly with screwed up controls if you fly other sims a lot. Not going to work. The only reason I managed to play the old X-Wing games in the past was that I got into flightsims after them.

Good questions, rach. Here's the latest:

The best guess we can make right now goes something like this: If you're strictly neutral then PvP rules (albeit modified for space) may still protect you.
However, you may be required to take on Imperial and/or Rebel ships to go up the Privateer skill tree. Some folks here don't believe that you'll ever be forced to engage in PvP combat, but until we know more about the Privateer profession this will remain unresolved.
(A related question: If you go up the Privateer tree, what happens to your otherwise "neutral" character on the ground? Are you KOS to anyone?)
Must... control... urge to... know more!

Well, we've recently been told that if you're not Overt, there is no pvp worry. Aka no tefs in space.
However, PvE is a very real concern. The risks of travel have never been JUST other players. The question I'd have is 'Can I launch, and hyperjump immediately, and then land, and 'just travel' when all I wanted to do was get to Corellia?' It feels like a waste to want to avoid the JTL content (pirates, and imps and rebels oh my!), but there will be days when my ship is the alternative to 'I don't want to pay 2300cr to go to Yavin, or wait for the shuttle,' so I'll hope there's a mode where getting from point A to point B doesn't actually take LONGER than waiting for the shuttle.
I seem to remember a design doc draft for shuttle wait times was to provide a motivation for 'everyone' to participate in the Space expansion, so you could go A->B without monetary and time considerations of the port. That is, the starport is more expensive (and more time consuming) than Space alternatives, leading you to be able to choose the 'cheap and fast' method of using the expansion.
Now, i haven't heard anything along these lines recently, but I remember it being some key reason why starport wait timers couldn't decrease 'too much'.
No more skill points in the expansion since only one profession is being added that requires them. And yes, PvE is going to be in space.

WILL there be PvE in space? I hope so, I want to fight space monsters!
Another question, I'm sure this has been asked and answered a dozen times (or at least asked!) Is there any word on whether or not we are getting more skill points with the expansion?
I'm also bitterly disappointed that there are no new planets in the expansion.![]()

Yep, we're hearing more about this now, and it sounds OK. Letting neutrals fly Rebel and Imperial ships (along with Hutt fighters) is an interesting and somewhat surprising decision, but probably justifiable. We'll see how it works in practice.
It's also good to know that neutrals can take missions for the "good guys" rather than having to shoot at Rebels and Imperials to go up the Privateer skilltree. Presumably it answers my question about how Privateers will be treated when they're on the ground -- that is, no differently than any other neutral, since there's apparently no "Privateer" faction that KOS to everyone else.

Heh. I was one of the people offering that theory. Now that they've dropped the starport wait time to five minutes, I don't know what to think....

What happens to me if I die in space?
You will appear at the nearest planet's cloning station and incur only Battle Fatigue. No wounds.
How will I travel in space (jumping to lightspeed)?
As of now you will use bouys and choose a destination when close to them.
How is collision going to work?
As of now we know we will collide with asteroids and capital ships. Colliding with other ships has been answered both ways (yes and no).
Just some quick fixes.
If you die you go to the nearest space station not the planet. Your ship arrives with you and it is extremely damaged, you can repair right there and land on the planet.
No bouy system. Its a click and go type thing. There will be "areas" where you can't jump into and out of space, gravity wells per se, but no bouys.
You collide with everything, colliding with a cap ship or an asteroid does damage. Colliding with a ship of the same size does no damage but you still get the effect (sound, explosion) of colliding.
I answered those questions in a thread that's buried somewhere, actually, i answered most of the questions of the day, most of the answers are still unchanged, except for the vaunted PvP question.
These answers were actually given in my own interview and playing with JTL.
A dev at Gencon said one ship, although they are thinking about working with that number."

I saw this in the original post and have a question:
Can my ship ever be destroyed?
The only way you can destroy your ship is by going into your datapad and deleting it.
If this is true how are shipwrights going to keep making money after everyone gets the ships they want? I understand that the cost of the ship would be high, so how about giving the ships a certain amount of "lives" before they are permenantly destroyed.
different things ..
1) new players and people getting new certs will keep a moderately lvl ship demand
2) the biggest money maker will be sjip compnents ... components that are found in space are 'reverse' engineered by shipwrights .. this should keep steady income
