/sign /agree This is a nessesity to make a good "Star Wars Feel" for the game. A smuggler having to run from a squad of imperials becausehe/sheis transporting contraband, etc..., and doesn't wan't to be boarded.Imps, Rebs.doing space themepark missions to board the opposite factions ships that are docked and holding an important meeting. The poosibilites here are endless.

I totally AGREE. It's just one step closer to making space the way it should be...
I would really love to have player stations up there, whether they're dynamic or static I don't really care...(though dynamic would be alot more fun) Until then, docking with other players would be great to play with. =)

One more application for docking that I have suggested before was for mining.
When the Y-8 originally came out I could not see a full team of miners working together in that one craft being more productive than if they all were in their own snubfighters mining separately. The only advantages you have being in a Y-8 is the Elite Mining Laser, and a much larger Cargo Hold. But they are offset fairly easily by its lack of maneuverability.
So I thought why couldn't you have one pilot man a Y-8 as a mobile depository, the other pilots in the smaller more maneuverable ships could mine until their cargo holds were full, then dock with the Y-8 and transfer their mined resources to the larger ship. This would increase productivity since the smaller ships would not have to make a series of small mining trips from the ground to the asteroid to unload.
Pretty much the same idea to Mobile Refineries in the Homeworld space RTS series if anyone knows what I'm talking about.
The only other function I can see docking used for would be for social / RP reasons, and to help fix / tow a disabled ship.
One person asked what would be done with the abandoned ships if you dock with another ship in space. Well in the books some ships could be outfitted with a 'slave circuit' which was basically a remote control. You could tell the ship to go land by itself, or put it in formation with the ship you're on. This could be implemented as a droid program for your Flight Computer / Astromech droid to do, though in theory, it shouldn't need a secondary computer since it was installed directly into the ship's controls.
Though the fee for a NPC towing a derelict ship would suffice as well...
I like the idea of using droids to help trade in space. In the books there were messenger droids that could transport small items or messages between planets (if they didn't want to send the message over the holonet for its lack of security). Not only could they be used ship-to-ship in space, but they could be extended to trading from one planet to another. It could work like the interplanetary survey droids. Give them a small delay and some UI that wouldn't need both players to check boxes in order to trade, but would have some sort of safeguard against accidental or unfair trading.
Sorry to get offtopic.
