Well i have investigated a bit, and that awesome screenshots are the "should be" scale.
Sadly the ingame scale is very different, and capitol (and big) ships have theirs size reduced . And so others ships (like for example b-wing).
But finally that scale comparative is the "true" ship size scale comparative. That images are the images that Devs should look at when implementing ships ingame.

Well, since a lot of the illustrations I'll be making with SWG-idealab have to deal with in-game size of the ships, I guess I'll need to find game actual dimensions rather than rely on canon lengths.

Well, the Rebel transport is supposed to be three time the length of a YT-1300. How big does it look in game?

Those are also used by the Kashyyyk mercenaries, along with a transport of the same style, but 3 times as big.


You can even see one of them on the ground, inside the NE slaver camp on Kashyyyk

These are some of the ones I've figured out so far:


Rebel Gunship - 55m

Imperial Gunship - 60m

Light and MediumFreighters (the ones you see flying everywhere) - 70m

Civilian Transport - 75m

Making some progress on ship types and sizes. Going to clean up the images here soon. I appreciate the ongoing help and screenshots. Still a ways to go.


Since we can't have player ISDs roaming about in the current sector sizes, I'll be adding a 340m wedge-shapedfrigate for Imperials (think Interdictor's little brother), and acomparable MonCal frigate in the 350-400m range as well (the MCE-10 might do the trick if I can find some decent images of it, otherwise I'll simply make a new one. SOE doesn't have qualms about making up gunships after all).


I'm thinking 450m should be the currentmaximum size for any possible player capital/guild-ships. Any larger and there just isn't enough logical room in space for maneuvering or view distance. That's still pretty big though. The stations themselves are about 300m.

I think Imperial Strike Cruise were about that size (400-500).
And something about that size for neutral/rebels could be the Dreadnougth (a bit larger if i remember); I Like Dreadnaugths

Doh, I just measured the neutral stations last night and they're 715m, not 300m,in length! The Rebel station looks like it's 820m in height. That thing is huge.


However, I'm suspicious of the methods I've been using. Usually I'll drop a waypoint at one end of the object, then fly to the other and record the distance...but when I did this on the Blockade Runner last night for reference, it came up with 215m rather than the expected 150m. Are the waypoint distancesreally 30% inaccurate? I've decided to just press ahead because most of the lengths appear to be correct. It would be nice to have the devs comment on the in-game sizes of these ships in relation to their official dimensions.

Yeah, the Strike Cruiser is about 450m. Unfortunately, while it would be cool,the Old Republic dreadnought is 600m. I'm thinking the Carrack cruiser at 350m would be a good substitute since it shares many of the same elements and is generic-looking.


For capital ships in the 400m range you have:


Strike Cruiser (Imp) - 450m
MonCal Light Cruiser (Reb) - 400m
Carrack Cruiser (Neut) - 350m
Star Frigate (Imp) - 350m (to be designed)
Nebulon B Frigate (Reb/Imp) - 300m
Corellian Corvette (Reb/Neut) - 150m
Imperial System Patrol Craft (Imp) - 120m
Corellian Gunship (Reb/Neut) - 120m


The Lancer frigate is about 250m but I'm not sure it has a place in JtL, being a purely anti-starfighter ship. It's too overpowered in that role and too weak in others.


Incidentally, the ships listed above has also been added to the lineup that I'll be reposting soon.

Great Job Bickillon !
The station is huge . There is anoticeable difference between compare the size with other ships in "first person" than with a "third person" camera view. You see the ships smaller if you are in the coptick, but when you zoomed out... the statios are really huge !

And about the waypoints unnacurate distance, it could be good to have some kind of confirmation.
