But this is just my idea for a great solution =)
--------------------------------------------------------
I thought of this too and although it would be good and probbably the best way to do it, the station would have to be HUGE, imgaine 100, 200 maybe ever 300 ships at peak time, all trying to land at once, they all had a landing pad it would be unrealistic. What i think its more likiely and a better way is to have to take a shuttle from the starport to a space station, from there you can speak to a guy who basically just sends you to your ship if you have one, a loading screen pops up and then you appear outside in your craft of choise.
Not pretty, not as fun, but realistic in terms of coding, lag and the fact that this is a MMO and as such contains WAY too many people to make landing plausable.

what i meant was one big hangar where ppl enter and then it stores in a docking panel there! i didnt say it should have 100 docking panels! just one or two! and one big hangar! maybe it could store instantly they get like lets say 15m inside the hangar

I totally agree CmdrLaforge!

Maybe i can hope for a StarTrek game not made by SOe to get a space game with ship interiors.

Why does it always seem that the game designers don't bother to think of what we want.

For exsample SOE with EQ didn't even have ridable horses in it till the Luclin expansion (4th i think) And then they had them priced at about 1.5 million platinum.

NWNs not having rideable horses in the game (took a guy a year in his spare time to make the animations and put them in the game Bioware said it would be impossible).

Now this with ships without ship interiors. They haven't said it yet but i know their gonna say it or delay saying it till the SE comes out and everybody finds out. I wont waste 2 months on this game if at least atmoshperes or ship interiors are in it. HELL WHERES SABACC? no CONTENT just nice looking graphics!

Yes, having an actual hangar you had to walk through to get to your ship might be neat. The first time. For the first person. But how exactly are 1000 ships going to be docked in Bestine? Is the starport going to stretch to Mos Taike? Will you have to take a shuttle to get from your ship to the starport entrance?

People complain constantly about waiting for shuttles, do you really think they want to be toldthat they're in a 15 minute holding pattern behind everyone else who wants to land? Or evenworse being told that the starport is full, try another city.

Give things a little thought before you post.

Give a little thought? You have obviously not given any thought to your reply. I read every single post up to the point I posted and I noticed 2 common complaints - no atmospheric flight and 'calling' a ship from a datapad. If you'd bother to use a little imagination you'd see that I was posting something I could see as a possible soultion. But if making suggestions and sharing ideas is 'knowing better than the devs' then I guess you're right.

Isee you missed the point where I said each person's docking bay would be instanced. It would be irrelevant how many ships are docked - you take an elevator (a loading screen) to your own instanced docking bay. Whether there are 10 or 10,000 ships docked it doesn't matter - but I guess you would prefer to simply whip it out from a datapad? You do understand the concept of 'instanced' right?

Second point, where did I say there would be a 15 minute wait? I'm talking more like a couple of minutes maximum and only for technical reasons. I'm pretty sure the servers could only handle a certain number of instanced docking bays, so any time sink would be while you wait for one to become free. And so what if atmospheric flight is reduced to nothing more than a 3 minute autopilot flight to your instanced docking bay?

I guess you'd prefer to store your space ship and instantly transport down to the planet.

I put some thought into how some potential problems are resolved - and you have no consructive response back. Instead of building on any ideas and improving them, you flame and troll.

BoberFett, I suggest you give a little thought before you post. I simply provided an idea, a suggestion, a semblance of creativity - you, have provided nothing.

The comment about if we wanted to play XvT, we would play XvT.... there is no comparison. Being a long time vet of XvT, SWG SE is my answer to the very outdated game of XvT. Not to mention XvT is dead..... so its hard to find good games in the zone anyways when I wanted to play. So again, good to hear there will be actual twitch skills needed.

Starfighters and other starships will be featured in the expansion that can be used for both space exploration and combat, allowing players to join up with allies and fly familiar X-wings and TIE fighters into battle against faction-aligned opponents and AI-controlled ships. Transport ships similar to the well-known Millennium Falcon will also be added into the game, allowing players to venture through space with friends aboard.

Will I need Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided to play Jump to Lightspeed?
Yes.

What will combat be like in Jump to Lightspeed?
In order to capture the frenetic feel of Star Wars® space battles, combat in Jump to Lightspeed is designed to be a fast-paced, real-time experience. Players will utilize "twitch" skills bolstered by special abilities gained through exploring RPG-style skill trees.

How does Jump to Lightspeed integrate with Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided?
Jump to Lightspeed integrates almost seamlessly with the ground game, An Empire Divided. Your ground character will be able to own a starship and learn new skills. The only significant difference is in the combat gameplay, which will focus much more on player skill (“twitch”) than character skill (“RPG”), though a character’s skills will still play an important role. Additionally, the content will be much more directed as players undertake more than 100 story-driven quests in order to advance.

Which starships will be available in Jump to Lightspeed?
While we're not ready to release the entire list yet, you can expect to pilot X-wings, Y-wings, TIE fighters, TIE interceptors, and many other recognizable starfighters. We'll also be adding a handful of "mercenary" craft, such as newly-created "Hutt fighters."

Will I be able to fly the Millennium Falcon?
We do plan to have multi-passenger ships in Jump to Lightspeed at launch, including a YT-1300 transport similar to Han Solo's Millennium Falcon.

Will there be new species added to the game via Jump to Lightspeed?
Yes, we will be adding two new playable species (details to come soon). We will also be adding a number of new alien species as NPCs.

Will there be new areas to explore in Jump to Lightspeed?
Yes, Jump to Lightspeed will add ten content-rich space zones for players to explore in their starships.

Will Jump to Lightspeed introduce new professions?
Yes, "Jump to Lightspeed" will introduce four new professions available to those players who purchase the expansion. We'll be releasing more information about these professions in the near future.

How will Jump to Lightspeed impact the game's current economy?
As with all over items in the game, starships will be manufactured by players for sale to other players. Jump to Lightspeed will also introduce several new types of loot, which can be used to repair and enhance starships and fund ground-based ventures. Finally, players will no longer be solely dependent upon the public shuttle system to travel between planets.

Are there things I can do in-game now to prepare for the release of Jump to Lightspeed?
Yes! Some Rebel and Imperial starships will likely be limited to players with specific ranks or a large number of faction points, so you can start earning faction points now. In addition, we're working on a new system that gives special space-specific perks to veteran players; more details about this will be coming soon.

Will there be a beta for Jump to Lightspeed?
Yes, we plan to rigorously test Jump to Lightspeed through both a private and public beta process, although the exact dates for these test periods have not been determined yet.

How do I get into the Jump to Lightspeed beta?
Details will be forthcoming, but preference will be given to players who attend Fan Fest and then to our veteran community (with special preference for those who regularly help us on Test Center). Eventually we will let more people into the beta, including some people who have never played Star Wars Galaxies, but our first slots will be for our most avid supporters. Beta Testing is not just a reward though; we will be looking for serious-minded testers who can provide constructive feedback.

When will Jump to Lightspeed release?
We're targeting a Fall 2004 launch.

How much will Jump to Lightspeed cost?
We haven't finalized the retail cost of Jump to Lightspeed, but we expect it will be competitive with other expansions. You will not need to pay any additional monthly fees - Jump to Lightspeed enhances your Star Wars Galaxies experience at no extra monthly charge.

More then one person will be able to on a ship. Thats a fun part. But I think (not sure) if they decide to add Rebel Blockade Runners (Rebel Modified Correlian COrvette) it will come with reb npcs and will be very cool. Be ready with tons of credits though cause crafters will be unfortunatly procin stuff really high. maybe if your on Shadowfire you wont have to save millions and millions. I'm planning on becoming a ship builder and selling ships for low prices. Anyway its going to be multiple person per ship. Though it doesnt have to you can get off the planet with 1 im just saying you can have alot of people on. Not sure if theres going to be a limit proably one like only 10 players per ship. Would depend on ship.

Where did you get this information? Unless I see a link to a dev conversation I'm not believing it.

LUCASARTS ANNOUNCES DETAILS OF STAR WARS GALAXIES(r): JUMP TO LIGHTSPEED

Marin County, Calif. - April 21, 2004 - The struggle between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance extends into space with Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Lightspeed, the first expansion for the award-winning Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing game set in the Star Wars(r) universe. Releasing in fall 2004 for the PC, this highly anticipated addition will dramatically expand the Star Wars Galaxies franchise by providing players more than 15 different vehicles for space exploration and combat.

Set in the Star Wars timeframe between Episode IV and Episode V, this first extension to the Star Wars Galaxies foundation opens 10 vast and distinct space sectors, spanning from the Core Worlds to the Outer Rim, for players to explore while engaging their opponents in intense real-time combat or uniting with friends in battle or exploration. Players can embark on more than 100 new missions, venturing through asteroid fields, nebulae and space junkyards while honing skills in four new space-specific professions. The game also features two new and completely customizable species.

Since its launch in June 2003, Star Wars Galaxies has allowed players to live the Star Wars saga and become immersed in the classic Star Wars universe simultaneously. Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Lightspeed continues the full immersion in the greatest Star Wars saga ever told: Yours.

server lad is easily avoidable just got to use your heads. if the devs upgrade the servers, atmospheric travel wouldnt be a problem... hell they wouldnt even have to upgrade the servers just make random zones or something. all i know is i get very little to no lag in the worse conditions so lag isnt a problem for me... except for when those crazy Bria folk have another "Battle of all Battles"

Everyone is getting all worked up over the twitch portion of the SE. If you think about it, it has to be slightly twitchy.

The part I imagine that will be twitchy is keeping your target in your crosshairs, not pulling the trigger at the right moment. My guess is that you initiate combat with your target, just like you do now, and the "combat" music starts. But your craft doesn't fire until you have the crosshairs over the target, kind of like being in range works now. From the demo I saw WAY back at Celebration II they were using a mouse to fly. I can't remember who gave the demo, but I remember him saying he wanted the SE to be a game his parents could just pick up and play. Nothing as complicated at TvX.

So a system like the one I mentioned would be a combo of twitch and character skill points. Twitchy to keep the target in front and in range and skill rolls to determine how has you faire and how accurate you are. The inverse is the same. Twitchy skills needed to avoid being in your opponent's crosshairs and skill based to determine if you managed to dodge the attack if you do end up in their sights.

Well from what i saw this is a keeper. We get our x-wing vs tie fighter style combat, player made ships, and some of the muti person ships as well. This looke very promising and i am really intrested in this expansion. so intrested in fact that i'd be willing to wait past the ship date to make sure it's correct...
