Oh that's right. They had FF XI servers in the US and didn't allow you guys to play ... oh wait ... they didn't did they? That game wasn't intended to be played internationaly from the off. SWG is a different game with servers in different countries and played by many different nationalities. The comparison hold absolutley no water whatsoever.

CSR Paul N.: Hello Mark, Thank you for contacting Sony Online Entertainment. One moment please, while I read your question. Thank You!
CSR Paul N.: How may I help you today Mark?
Mark Crudgington: hi
Mark Crudgington: im just trying to find out info on the newly release starwrs JTL
Mark Crudgington: im in the UK and the release dat untill 2 days ago was the 27th
Mark Crudgington: i was just wondering if SOE could shed any light on this?
CSR Paul N.: The release date for the UK is November 5th, Mark
Mark Crudgington: i have heard that it is at activision end of things, that they were holding on so they could release something else first
Mark Crudgington: is that at SOE's command? or is it just a distributers thing?
Mark Crudgington: im trying not to complain, sorry if it seems i am,
Mark Crudgington: but it is a little dissapointing that the game is delayed, without notice
CSR Paul N.: I am very sorry Mark. The decision has been and we really dont know the reason as to why it was set like that.
Mark Crudgington: ok, so there will be no early releases from HMV or anyone, comments on the JTL disccussion board suggested that HMV were still releasing, against Activisions wishes
CSR Paul N.: I do not have that information. If they release it early then you'll know before me.
Mark Crudgington: ok, thanks for your time. if i can suggest though, it might be of benefit to post something on the forums, so that people over here know what is happening and why, because there are more then a few people starting to think that we dont mean anything to SOE/Activision, just to clear things up.
CSR Paul N.: One moment please.
Mark Crudgington: ok
Mark Crudgington: ?
CSR Paul N.: One moment please.
Mark Crudgington: kk
CSR Paul N.: Please send your suggestions/comments to [email protected]
CSR Paul N.: Is there anything else I can help you with today Mark?
Mark Crudgington: no thats it thanks
CSR Paul N.: Thank you for visiting our SOE Chat line, Mark. Take care and have a Good Day!

untill today they were still set to release on friday, the 29th.

Apparently they were going against Activisions commands. I just looked and they have pushed it back to the 5th, apparently, though im still checking on that.

it's not a matter of shipping the game before the release date.

why not ship the game around the world and then release a date.

===============================================================

and then what, wait for an email, snailmail, phonecall... etc from EVERY store in the world. Cant go live until the store in backwater, france calls us. At some point, you reach a saturation point and the game goes live. Then game must go gold and then 10,000's of CD are made and shipped out. It is the job of the distributer to get the game to the stores.

Ideally, when the game arrives at the stores the servers should go live. Does not make sense that people can buy the game and wait days for other people to get the game. Thus they ship to distributers and since the game CAN get to most US stores on a known day, that is when the game goes live.

This is all my fault really. I take full responsiblity for this catastrophe. I went to the Final Fantasy XI site a few years ago and complained vigorously on their forums about why America had to wait a year for their lousy game. Now my karma has finally caught up to me. Now I have to listen to the Europeans complain. Now I know why all those nice Japanese people were cursing that stubborn American who won't go away and leave their forum alone. Oh well. In an hour, I'll be playing JTL and none of this will matter . . . at least not to me anyway.
