My Evenstrain modded Thrustmaster Cougar HOTAS is doing nicely. But you probably don't want to drop $1000 on joysticks.

I've been contemplating the Uber-2...mostly because I was able to buy my Cougar for 179.99 through Amazon when they were stupid enough to have it on Gold Box with a 40 dollar rebate.
That being said I still wouldn't use the damn thing in JTL.

The Uber 2 still has the transitional flats. The Evenstrain is awesome. I don't use any dead zone value for the stick because it's so precise.

Did you install it yourself or buy a six-pack for a machinist?

Six pack? I wish!
No, I paid Greg Cook to do the upgrade. It requires some serious machining.
On a side note, it's funny that Thrustmaster went with such a great body and such crappy stock internals.

Because they were hoping to get a "OMGZ I WANTZOR TEH 31337 STICKZ SO MY PEEPZ WILL LIKE ME" crowd behind them, and most kiddies can bilk 299.99 out of their parents for frivolous purchases. It's "the console effect."

If you've got the money for it laying around, then buy the Saitek X45, It's the best i've ever used and one of the best out there.

I got this one when I picked up JTL:
http://www.saitekusa.com/usa/prod/st90.htm
It was only 14.99 at Gamestop, works decently for JTL. First joystick I've ever owned!

I bought a refurbished x45 direct from Saitek.com for half the price of the retail. When I got it in the mail, the USB failed to connect after loading the software. I was disapointed in the hardware, but I did get good and quick tech support (had to send it back). I went and bought the Top Gun Foxpro 2thrustmaster joystick instead of waiting for a replacement. The TM feels much better, and the throttle is placed at the base of the joystick using your left hand thumb to slide (and 3 buttons for your fingertips).

Every experience I've had with the Fox 2 Pro is that while capable, it's friggin' FLIMSY. I worried that if I went to emergency burner in an intensive sim that I'd end up breaking off the throttle.

Logitech Extreme 3d Pro. I tried out about 5 different sticks in beta, and this one works the best for me.
It kicked ass in beta, and still kicking ass now.
