Additiona thought:
I might be a good thing that imperial ships have to external changes with upgrades. You'll never know if that TIE you're gonna attack is sporting some amazing equipment uner the hood, or it's just a run of the mill TIE. On all the other ships, i can tell from a glance the weapontry and basic type of engine. can plan tactics that way...
Not so with an imperial ship.
Which TIE in the formation is the most dangerous? Wont be able to tell untill they blast you! Maybe that kind of bluff is what the empire wanted.

It has been established though that Some Imperial Fighters did Have Stripes Painted across thier wings like the 181st Squadron had Blood Red Stripes. While the Imperial fighters shouldnt change colo rthey should get some sort of stripes or something for the wings

For each ship, there's only about two or three different engine/booster/laser designs. Which is a bit disappointing.

Imperials get zero customizability. You shouldn't be complaining.

engines also change on the x-wing based on what engine you put in it. I've seen a few with large retangular engines instead of the movie small round ones. If you have an Imperial ship you can only change the weapon color.
On the Y-Wing, too, as my Rebel alt found out. Clicky!
Looks kinda like something from Star Trek, I think.

Yes, because as we all know, in the movies, subjects of the Empire are encouraged to express their individuality with visual flair.
If you wanted to play "Dress Up Barbie" perhaps you shouldn't have joined a fascist military regime obsessed with obedience and conformity?

Dude, your flying cannon fodder. Vader and his ilk don't give a damn about you lot, do you think they'd let you paint go-faster stripes on your TIE? If you want to be distinct come join the light side..
This may hold true in any pilot up to an Interceptor, but I rather think the Empire does not consider expertpilots flying around in highly advanced fighters such as the Oppressor to be cannon fodder. I mean, who did they give an Advanced to? Vader. Was Vader cannon fodder? Your point is moot.

On the other hand, it's certainly true we saw many Rebel ships with personalized markings and customizedparts in the movies, showing the total freedom of the Rebel pilots to do what they pleased to their ships.
... wait, no we didn't.

Really? You didn't? Maybe you need to watch the movies again.
Oh and btw... I'm a Privateer. I'll paint & customize my own damn ship any way I please, thank you very much.

That's umm...kinda the idea. After all, stormies can't customize armor, so why should pilots be able to? You're lucky the Emperor doesn't just throw you on a star destroyer and make you serve where he wants you to.
