I know that is normal, but that isn't how it has been said in multiple sources. It is as follows:
"The stick itself controls the yaw and pitch of the craft; if you have separate rudder controls, they'll handle rolling the craft left and right." -IGN
You can find it
and
the FAQ wasn't guesses but info pulled directly from interviews, dev responses and actual test runs of the system by gaming sites and magazines.

1. Will I be forced to fight in space? Meaning, if I just want to use my ship to go from planet to planet will I be opening myself up to being attack just by being in space?
We don't know yet.
The best guess we can make right now goes something like this:If you're strictly neutral then PvP rules (albeit modified for space) may still protect you.
However, you may be required to take on Imperial and/or Rebel ships to go up the Privateer skill tree. Some folks here don't believe that you'll ever be forced to engage in PvP combat, but until we know more about the Privateer profession this will remain unresolved.
(A related question: If you go up the Privateer tree, what happens to your otherwise "neutral" character on the ground? Are you KOS to anyone?)
2. Will I be able to use my ship as a transport? i.e. Load it up with more items than I can carry on my person, and/or passgeners?
Good news here -- the developers have said that you'll be able to drop items inside your multi-player ship just like you can in your house. So basically any multi-person ship can be used as a freighter, although that mode of gameplay isn't directly supported -- basically space will be dangerous for everyone but without any particular rewards for doing space-based commerce.
We don't know the item limits per ship, of course, nor do we know if vendors can be created inside ships (although we do know that crafting stations will be supported). Unless the developers decide to share this information with us, we'll just have to find this out when JtL is released.

No. Anyone can get it once they get high enough in their certifications.
