btw, since you fly in space anyway and kill a lot of rebs to do your tiers it cant hurt when you declare at your friendly neighborhood station before you enter your mission area.
there are hardly any players in space. and most of the overts are either in deepspace or kessel.
i made enough FP to get me an AT-ST and a full set of stormie armor just from the JTL grind (completly new char).
not to mention a buttload of equipment and almost 2 mil in cash. (mission payout and selling comps i dont need for any reason.)

On teir missions, (IE, teir 3), i dont recommend going overt. If your Storm or Black Epsilon for example, you already have enough on your plate, having to worry about rebel players out hunting for overts, i feel is an unneccesary risk. In my mind, the primary objective of teir missions is to complete them, and they can be frustrating. Would kinda suck to be on the last leg of an hour long mission only to be vapped by a rebel player. Just my opinion.
If you're just doing duty missions, though, going overt should be an easy way to get faction points relatively quckly, especially if you're already in an overpowering ship. For example, I'm 2-2-1-1 as an Inquisitor Squadron pilot, and my TIE/In Fighter with upper-level equipment more than outmatches any X-Wings I encounter running duty missions. I can usually take one out in 10-15 seconds once I draw my crosshairs on them--and that's factoring in maneuvering time, as well. I haven't tried it yet, but I think that with the speed I can take out enemy ships, I could gain a lot of faction pretty quickly.
But other than that I agree with you--you shouldn't be overt if you're running your NPC missions.
