What if we could fly for a faction *and* the neutral ships? It would work like this:
You certify as a Master (Ace) in one of the factions or neutral. After that is complete, you can choose another pilot line, as long as it is not the opposite faction, but it will cost you regular skill points this time.
For example, a person could do Rebel than Neutral, Imp than Neutral, or Neutral then either Imp or Rebel. No one could ever do Rebel and Imp.
This way people who want more flight options and spend more time in the space game can do so (at the expense of skill points), and those that want more "balance" can do their "free" pilot profession and save the rest of their 250 points for ground professions.
Just an idea....

ya just to let you know if your comparing SWG and the movies then that would mean Han Solo was Rebel on ground and Priveteer in space (he just chose to help out the rebels in space)
and he was never formally in the rebelian until the last movie. he just help out in the other ones
Valid point. Neither Rebel nor Imperial pilot can get the YT-1300. That's a neutral-only ship, in this game. I can see keeping certain ships specific to certain factions, but there should be some sort of "available for all" set of ships. THe Imperial shuttle, in my opinion, should be available. It's a well known ship in the Star Wars saga. The Z-95 and X-Wing should also be available for more than just Rebels. I know that I sure see enough non-Rebel NPCs using those. If players are limited to certain ship groups, then NPCs should be limited, too. Fair is fair, and all.

Try the Dunelizard. I am a Master Pilot and I have reoutfitted a Dunelizard and it is now my favorite fighter ship (over the Firespray). It hasa good amount ofmass, great manuverability and looks cool with a paint job. It is comparable to an A-Wing in my opinion

I agree they need to change the ship certs, but they should REALLY do it this way.
Keep the certs the way it is going up to Ace, but once you reach ACE, you get certed for the 2 ace ships, but you also get RE-Certified for the rest of the ships, but they are able to hold more mass.
IE: My jedi, who is a privateer pilot, currently runs around in a syck fighter. I love that thing. The only other thing I would really fly would be a medium hutt fighter. However, because of weight restrictions, I can't have any upper level equipment on it. Which basically means that this ship is always going to be a craptacular floating target that will get ripped apart by anything that moves.
However, if, at ace, I was RE-Certed for all the fighters, but highly modifiable versions (read: MORE available mass), I could fly my beloved light hutt fighter, like one would an A-wing. Ultra fast!!!
