Regardless, I can hit anyone but Corsec right now!
It all depends on the mission.

It sounds as if you're a Rebel pilot, which is a shame as Im on your server and would have been very much willing to help, but really check out The Wingman Thread and see if any of the Rebel/Neutral pilots there can help you out.
Im not going to disagree, you DO need to work on the ground game to get your Pilot career started, but you have to understand although JTL is a flight game, its still part of an MMO, and it has to tie in with its parent-game or else they may as well have released it seperately.
If you get frustrated mate, take a step back, realise its a game and that you dont have to get to the top right away. Organise everything in advance, rather than spend ages standing in front of starports to get a group, check that thread, when you pass through a twon ingame, take a few minutes to use the Search Tab(under ctrl+p) and look for other pilots of your faction, then contact them and ask if they would mind helping out at some point in the next week. Ive got 14 Imperial pilots in my friends list now, odds-on at least a couple will be online when Im about to try a difficult mission.
The grouping system could be easier, but you just have to get on with it and make the best of the situation. Oh, and a quick tip: if you're short on cash and stuck on a quest-mission, just keep doing Duty Missions from your trainer. The XP will come in handy, and if you finish the entire mission(about 2 hours work) you get around 30k in mission rewards, a 50k Credit Chip and a full inventory of crappy loot, which you can sell to the Chassis Dealer NPC in the Starports and get about 120k.
Good luck, and I hope you persivere, it IS worth it.

I'm a CorSec 3222 Pilot and can fire on Imps andRebels. In fact I'm regularly sent on escort missions destroying imps and rebels who are trying to loot cargoships. A Corsec person should be able to help you.

I get a kick out of reading posts that say something to the effect of "I did it, that means anyone can!!"
Let me simplify this:
Fact: Some CorSec can damage Rebels.
Fact: Some CorSec cannot damage Rebels.
Fact: If you go CorSec, accept that there is a chance you will not be able to help your Imperial friends.

It's all a moot point for me now, both my RL friends have given up and left the game, slightly pissed that they just spent a good sum of money on the 2 games needed to play. Neither of them wanted anything to do with the empire which ment neither wanted to fly for the RSF either and each wanted to see what the other 2 neutral mission sets were like. they get to tir 2 missions only to find out we couldnt attack the mission targets of each others missions. Needless to say they said typical SOE thinking and canceled there accounts before they got charged.
Thats all I have to say about the matter. Personaly I'm still having a ball dispite having no viable content (missions) of my own and no further means of progression. I'm currently seeking people needing help with there tier 4 missions.
