if you don't unpack that deed before dropping Imp and going rebel again, you may not be able to use the deed at all.

Quoted with emphasis added. See the the other threads with people complaining about gaining the ship and not being able to unpack it when they switch professions. But who knows, maybe the last publish successfully fixed this.

Are you a pilot and not using Droid Commands?

You cannot be an Imperial on the ground and a Rebel in space. Thus, no, you cannot get it while retaining your ace rank.

OK, I've made the decision to drop Alliance Ace Pilot and switch to Imperial temporarily. A few questions. Will I lose my ships that I have had as alliance pilot? I plan on going back to the rebel side as soon as I get the JSF and would like to be able to have them when I get back. Also, what do I have to do to become imperial, just drop the ace pilot and select the "quit" option from the rebel recruiter?

Hit the FAQ thread. There is a wonderful description of how to go about doing it there. Also, invest in a Heavy Z-95 if you have the money for one. It will help a lot on your way back up the Rebel tree.

You will not lose your ships. You will however lose the ability to pilot them until you recertify, which shouldn't take as long since you get double xp for being a prior ace which will make it easier to get those skill boxes back. I dropped my privateer rank and my rebel ground rank to become an Imp for a few hours while I completed the first part of the quests that give the JSF. then i switched back to rebel on ground and joined a rebelpilot group. Just be sure that if you want to use some of the equipment on your higher level ships that you take the stuff off of them before you drop your skills b/c if you don't have the skill box, you can't manage the ship in that box

You won't lose your ships, but you will lose access to them, until you get the skillboxes back, pull anything you might want out of them..If you have an ARC do NOT re deed it. Those mission flags are bugged, and you wouldnt be able to unpack it again when you came back. Standard procedure lately has been for pilots to load out a Heavy Z95, then use that to regrind.

As for dropping, just talk to a recruiter, leaving the faction will also drop you as an Alliance Pilot at the same time. Remember to delegate/use all your faction up before you do.

So long as you have enough room for one ship, you will be fine. Imperial ships can't be retextured or painted, so having one as the number 4 or greater slot will have no affect, should you decide to fly of course. You only have to be Imperial on the ground, you do not have to do the follow-on mission Lord Vader gives you after rewarding you with the JSF. Of course, being the rebel scum that you are, I don't expect you to blow your own people into so much space dust.

So to answer your question, you will not lose them, you will just not be able to use them until you regain the requisite Alliance pilot skill to fly them.

Not really no. You get the JSF before the space mission and can ignore the final mission if you like, or find someone with a Krayt or an Aggressor who wouldn't mind flying you through the mission. Personally, that kind of trip is fun itself, so I suggest giving it a go.
