Two words for ya...

Job runs.

Most of the movies you could turn off. Warp gates you could not. Going from valkrie twins to Net 7 doing job runs was a royal PITA if you didnt have a JE in your pocket. What was it, 9 or so warpgates or so one way and 9 back? Something like that.

I too played E&B, and yes at times the movies were a pain but for the most part I loved them. I kept all movies on just for the feel of it. Some people love them and some do not. Just have it so you can toggle the option, that way both sides win.

I would love to have this be an option although I would want it done a bit differently. The way I would love to see this done would be to have it BE the loading screen so as to not add more wait. The one MMOG I played that I felt did it good was AC2. In that game, when ever you portal to another place, you actually saw a worm-hole portal as if you where inside of it. It was a cool effect and was at least something to look at as you loaded into the next zone.

I agree.....both AC1 and AC2 used the portaling animation as loading screens, and it was MUCH better then having to read the same old text and crap with the current loading screens. I think that, handled like the current JTL sector to sector animation of hyperspace (which is the loaing screen), this would be GREAT for the jump to and from space. If people wanted an option to have the regular old loading screens back, okay fine, let them have that. But a little video of your ship blasting off from Mos Eisley would really add to the flavor of Star Wars that is trying to be achieved here.

I think it's cool that a lot of us have had this idea separately. It shows that it has merit. It should be done, along with the option to disable it for those of us who do not want to have it occur. I originally envisioned a cut-scene much like the one in ANH where the Millenium Falcon escapes Mos Eisley. I don't think it would be that hard to do. It doesn't even have to be real (ie: have it so that the only person that can see the ship leaving the starport is the person that's travelling).

but the thing is you have said a game that uses movies as the load screen yet it only takes the load screen on jtl 3-5 secs to load so if you swapped that our for a animation that took say 20secs it would slow people down alot and the devs would probly need to do a lot of coding to get this to work as the load screens on this are programed to use static images but overlay the load bar/circle.

what about people with super-fast computers like mine? it takes merely 5-7 seconds to load into coronet.. not even 4-5 seconds to load elsewhere and in space.. my "load" time would be lengthened, devaluing all that ram I bought for uber-load =P hehehe

seriously though.. this is a nice idea, but lets get real.. the devs severely broke graphical optimization.. remember a couple months back before JTL in Theed and Coronet? It was never this bad.. JTL broke something that made everything lag like nuts (yes I know it was even MORE better thanpre-JTL around publish 6 or 7 too).. this should be fixed first to reduce pc's load..

otherwise some people's "movies" are just going to strain the computer more.. instead of launch-load-spawn, you'll have launch-load-movie-load-spawn...they need to get this game reoptimized again first or else the movie's gonna seriously piss some people off with even longer load-time then they're already dreading everytime they go somewhere..

the extra lag is cause by the fact they improved the graphics with jtl so your setting were set high before and ran well on you cad but now due to the higher detail thats jtl brought you need to tone down the gfx to bring it back to what you had.

Why not just give people the option to switch it off like the opening sequence as suggested?

The Millenium Falcon leaving ME is a good example of how a lift off movie can still be atmospheric yet only 3-5 seconds in length, 20 seconds is too long anyway.

Another way to tackle it could be a lift off sound effect and picture instead of the messages and music we get now.

I often launch - hyper - dock when I'm not in a hurry so it feels more realistic. If you disagree teleport here right now and we can discuss it.

One thing I'd like to add to this (unless this was already said) when the movie things start to play, when you take off a voice should say "You're clear for take-off, opening gates now. Good luck out there!". And when you're landing it could say "You're clear for landing in hanger bay AA23. Welcome back." I think it would add a nice feel to it.

Sure, movies are cool... at first.

But having to watch a movie in adition to a loading screen gets very old, very fast. Espeically if theres no option to turn the silly movie off.

Any ex E&Ber knows what i mean when i say "warpgates" heh. Basically, want to zone to a new sector? Hit a warp gate. Activating the warp gate treated you with a movie of your ship approaching and entering it. This movie took about 20-30 seconds maybe a bit less, then you saw the acutal loading screen.

Now rinse and repeat that, everytime you want to go somewhere and are in a hurry.

I played E&B for quite awhile and I loved the little movie things. Heh, in fact I used to change my ship just so I could dock with a station, watch the landing movie and see what my ship looked like. Sure the movies weren't good if you were in a rush, but c'mon... how long did they last? 10-30 seconds at the most?

As a E&B founder (beta to end), I kinda liked the movies, but I was a JE so I could wormholewhenI wanted

Movies would be nice, yeah. Except for the massive number of movies they'd have to make. There are five types of starports in this game: Theed Spaceport, Naboo-style Starports, Generic Starports, and Outpost starports. There are twenty-five types of ships, not including engine/gun variants.

25 x 4 = 100 different movie files would have to be made, not accounting for different-looking components.

So yeah, it would be cool, but it would also be a fairly massive undertaking.

Hehe, I was one too. I loved that class (though I loved my ship even more).
I miss that game... wish it was still going...

they wouldnt have to make one movie per ship and style of ship all they hav to do is tell the script to place the ship modle on the trach the starport shutles use then shrink when it gets to x distance like the normal shutle does. come on you dont thing thewy made seperate movies for every posibility of ship when you die they just make it use the modle of your ship then zooms to x and lets it explode as normal.
