R.Click and "Save target As" because the moviefile is like 60MB (the big version) so it´ll take a while to download.
the small video is around 6MB

I have tried real player, windows media viewr and quicktime and all this playes is music, no video. I went to the Xvid site and they just say how to make your own viewer, not an actual one to use.
what else do we need to do to view this

either get the divx version and divx (and take the NON-pro version unless you want to pay or have adware installed) or search google for xvid compiled binary. or compile it yourself, but as windows doesnt come with all (or rather: any) of the needed tools you should be familiar with your compiler for that.

not when its your own server and you have to pay for the traffic. divx and xvid are very common by now and should be available for all platforms. so its either mpeg1/2 (way too big), wmv/asf (great, proprietary ms stuff with absurd scripting options, ergo huge security issues) or quicktime (as far as i know the software to create them isnt free and its still a bit large).
if you install divx/xvid, you dont do it for just one video, but because it's used a lot and the only decent option for small file sizes and compatibility. both require a simple download and running an exe file.
its always work, it begins right after installing windows (plan a full afternoon to configure it and make it at least remotely safe), continue with replacing buggy security holes (ie, outlook, media player) and never really ends (updates, fixes, patches).

Geez..seems like way to much work to watch 1 video. Maybe it would have been better to format it in a more common format that people actually have.

Divx\xvid is a very common file format. Definately in the top 4 formats for movies as far as popularity goes.
To watch a divx video go to www.divx.com...download the free player & codec. install them when the download is done. Watch movie.
The codec only has to be installed once, and then you can watch any divx movie you want.
