Here's the diffrence between complaining and brainstorming. Complaining is saying you hate something and want it changed. Brainstorming is saying you don't like something and then putting out an idea. I'd say any nay-sayer about the main post or the contents of this thread re-read everything and realise this is a brainstorming thread, not people just griping.

People need to quit making excuses and start supporting ideas like this. I proposed a very do-able outline for making cargo holds on all craft http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=lightspeed&message.id=127103 , using load-lifters and containers for delivery systems among other things but it was late in beta for JTL and when the expansion went live the thread was gone with the Beta boards. Even though there were pages of ideas added by replies in beta the same proposal had a few people like that making excuses as to why the idea wouldn't work.

They have the dollars to add whatever the really want to in the way of hardware and programming. But they will only put in what they think the paying base really wants.

I don't see the issue in why we cannot land. I always thought it could be done smartly and this is how:

When you go to land on the planet you can do it through the space station as normal. This time you pick land on planet instead of a city.

From there you get the planet map. You have a square that you drag and click on an area you are interested in. All of a sudden you get the same type of screen you get when you are dropping a structure for that area you have chosen. Your ship has a footprint and you now choose the place you want to drop your ship - JUST LIKE A HOUSE.

Once it is dropped it makes itself right there and you get out. You are now standing next to your ship and when you return you get a radial that can examine or takeoff. If you takeoff you go right back into space where you normally would if you took off from a spaceport.

I would think this would work. All the devs would have to do is make the ships a viewable entity on the ground (ie make th graphics for each one). They already have the TIEs and X-Wings. I wouldn't even care if we couldn't see our modifications on the ground.

What do you think?

Friggin' AWESOME man! But, at that point when it's on the ground, I would want to be able to enter and exit my ship just like a house too. And if you paid maintainace on and it took up one lotlike a house then it's really no different. I don't see any reason to NOT do this. With a cut screen animation of the landing site and ship, it would add a fun-factor to the game that would be unequaled!
