I think you are mistaken. She definately talked to the Imperial guy, but he wouldn't have anything to do with her (despite her standing there in complete Scouttrooper armor...). It may have been that way in Beta, or your friend may have hit a bug, but on the overall it just isn't possable.

I was imperial when I masted smugglers alliance the first time. At first I was confused about it but I realized that I was a smuggler and a pirate first and foremost.

The smugglers alliance is an alliance of all smugglers, this is why you are hired out to work for all the seedy types, valarian, jabba, nym, black sun, and more.

As a smugglers alliance pilot you are a smuggler, a pirate, a bounty hunter or hired gun for whatever criminal element needs your services, the smugglers alliance is like your temp service manager. As I got into it I even chose some duty missions where I would hijack imperial ships for cash. Being a smuggler in game I then use the credits and loot sales from these pirate operations to buy imperial faction points. Who else but a smuggler would use their factional knowledge to pirate their own ships and sell them off to get higher rank and make money off it

You are first and formost a pirate, a smuggler and an all around criminal type. Factional alignment takes a back door to profits and your own personal advancement. If knowledge of your faction gives you and edge in turning a profit, you are above all else a mercenary. If this is not the case then join RSF.

This was meant to help.

Incorrect, Corsec is given the choice, Smuggler's alliance is not.
