One last thing... SW is the movies not the books.
Um even in A New Hope Han states " shes not much to look at but she got it where it counts i have made many upgrades".
not the exact line but close enough so it's mentioned there.

Also dont forget that some of Han's upgrades were droid brains. Droids that like to idly talk to each other. Put a bunch of kids in a room with fine china and eventually something is gonna break.
Then you have to add to it the deterrence factor. I dont even think Lucas realized this. I think he came about this by accident. If your a pirate looking to hijack a load, you see two ships. A nice shiny new YT-2400 and a beat up old YT-1300. Which you gonna go after? Give yourself a POS but with mods and you avoid trouble more.

Same is said for the X34 land speeder. Remember in A new hope when luke sells his. "Ever since the X38 came out, they just aren't in demand." and we are selling X34s for 10k when luke sold his used one for 2k.

Ofcourse the ship is junk. As others said, it was the modifications done to it that made it so desirable to han. And its the whole reputation of the ship being junk that helps han out also. Everyone who sees the falcon says "What, we are going to space in THAT thing?" Then when it outruns the best new ships its that huge underestimation advantage he is counting on. Also if it wasnt a flying pile of crap what would chewbacca do? He has two roles, sit and roar, and fix the falcon.

I just thought of this.
The YT must be out of date. Think about it, the Falcon ran like crap. Which can either means Han is an idiot for running it into the ground when he could get new parts for his ship easy since hes a smuggler or it ment that the YT isn't made anymore and thats why he can't get new parts and stuff. Though, if the YT is out of date, then why is it in the game? Haha... Thats so funny to think about.

There is a YT-2400 so it must be a fair bit out of date, i wouldn't want to fly 1, was watching the films recently and leia (think thats her name) insults it.

Well, I don't mean to flame, but you obviously don't have a clue about star wars lore.
Ok for education:
YES the YT-1300 is an extremely old ship. It is several generations of technology older than most ships that were around during the trilogy years.
The reason why it was such a good ship was not the chassis, so to speak, but the modifications that Han and Lando did to them (yes it was originally Lando's ship) . Han took it to the corporate sector and had a military grade hyperdrive system in it, put smuggling comparments, new weapons, communications and sensor arrays, amoung other things over the years.
The reason it sometimes sucked is that there were so many crosswired systems that they sometimes conflicted and caused things to short out and screw up (kinda likea certain game I play....)

I don't mean to flame, but you obviously don't know not everybody is a Star Wars nerd that reads every SW book, plays every SW game, has every SW poster, comic, toy, sound track there is. I for one play this game because I wanted to become a jedi and kill other people... If it wern't for that I would never of even picked up the game.

Alot of people don't realize the genius behind Han's using the old frieghter. The very purpose of blending in. Plus the modification ability. I know that people think 1300's are supposed to be 'old and rare' but in truth in the SW galaxy at the time of this game, I would think there'd be several thousand out there at any given time (but far away from most of the areas we may reach). Old ships used for simple transport of people or legal cargo by companies or people who cannot afford-- or even want-- state of the art or newships, that kind of stuff. Besides if the Falcon was the last one, wouldn't EVERYONE and thier grandmaknow it's THE Falcon? No, because there are still a ton out there still flying, and Han likes to lay low.
C'mon people, think. This is why Star Wars is so great-- it's got an incredible sense of realism. If anyone watched the Documentary with the recent DVD release, the designers were told by Lucas to make it look like a galaxy that was ancient, that's been lived in. It's one of the main reasons I love Tatooine and it's lore; it's old. You can parallel almost anything in our real life universe with the Star Wars universe. I drive an old 67 Valiant much the same someone would be flying an outdated freighter, or the way old police cars go to smaller cities when large cities get new cars... just because something's old it doesn't just dissapear.

i think the big reason why the falcon is falling apart is because han is a pilot/smuggler. he is not a mechanic. this is obvious in ESB.

......... You people need to leave your computers once and awhile seriously. You people flame over such small things its crazy. If you really really want to, you can flame me over and over and over again, and all it does is show how nerdy you truely are.
Yes people I have played Jedi Acadamy and KOTOR, in fact, I own them.
Secondly, the only Star Wars I know is the movies, Jedi Acadamy, KOTOR, and this game. So go ahead and flame me for being ignorent on the books and crap.
ps: If I seem passive agressive, its because I'm holding back the vulgarity and true agressiveness of how I really amso I don't have to worry about SOE getting on my back. Thats not being a 'other word for cat', its being smart, because you can't win against SOE, because they come full on, or not at all.
