Faction points are a lot easier to obtain than on the ground because you get loads for Tier 4/5 stuff which doesn't take long to kill!!
You can get more than a ground missions worth of fps just by killing a Tier 5 Gunboat, around 192fps I believe, and you get the full amount even if you are grouped just like the xp!!
Cya!

Hi,
I've been a master pilot (smugglers alliance) for some time, but it's only in the past couple of days that I've tried any GCW content; I joined the rebels, in the ground.
I was just wondering if, as a civilian pilot, I can earn FP's in space? (I did get about 800 rebel FP's for doing my corvette mission). If not, would I earn FP's in space by being an alliance pilot?

You can go Space Overt at any Alliance Station (except the one that travels to Deep Space) then blast Imperial NPCs for faction. You are vulnerable to other overt PCs, but they are few and far betweenon most servers.Unfortunately, as a Freelance pilot you have no acces to good factioned NPC Duties, nor Deep Space or Kessel, so the best faction hunting grounds are closed off to you, but you can still make great gains vs the tier4 Imperial NPCs in Dathomir or Endor space.

That's fine, I like hunting imperial gunboats anyway.
You say I won't be rewarded for hitting them in Kessel though?

Im having a problem shooting TIE's in space even though I am rebel, I can only attack Rebel Fighters not Imperial ones, if I were to goto a rebel station and overt would I be able to kill TIE's

Sounds like you're in the RSF. Unfortunately that's about the worst choice for a Rebel.

If a neutral pilot declares Overt, then none of the travel stations (Last Nav, nor the Rebel or Imperial) will let them enter Deep Space or Kessel.

Thanks for the information.
Isn't that a little silly? If I want to enter Deep Space at all, I have to declaire for the alliance or the empire. So that means the only place one cannot go to PvE overtly is kessel. Does anybody have any idea what the reason for that is?
(From a role play point of view I like the idea of civilians signing up to go help out the rebels ending up in a kind of rag-tag fleet, also works from the mercenary point of view).

You can actually go in to deepspace as a freelance pilot. You can't go in declared, though. So there's not much point, unless you're after loot, prestige or some PvP action.
You can go overt in to Kessel, though. The only problem at the moment is, once you declare, all space stations treat you as that faction untill you deed your ship.

Ah, when I said what I said about deep space, I was thinking of when I go the last nav station in Dathomir space and I'm asked which side I'm going into deep space for. If that isn't declaring, what's the difference?

There is a difference between PvP enabled, and Factional Overt. Without going Overt at a station, you cannot gain faction, and if you go Overt as a freelance you cant get into the PvP enabled zone. They have you choose a side when not overt because you need to be on a side in a 2 sided battlezone like that. Betrayal or simply being able to shoot all other players was an option the Devs didn't want to deal with for Freelance.

Well here's a weird turn up for the books...
Went over to the Dantooine rebel station; master freelance pilot, rebel combatant on the ground. Every time I tried talking to the station, it just kept telling me to sign up with the rebel alliance. Wouldn't let me declaire at all.

At this point, if I were a real noob I'd be asking where they are, but I'll go look instead
