I think you hit the nail right on the head Abale. I can't say I have the best viewpoint concerning this, but I feel SOE would really benefit by implimenting these sorts of changes. After all, its really what the players want.

From a money standpoint, which obviously plays a big factor, it would be a huge success. I'm not trying to say that SOE just does everything for the money and cares nothing about the fans, because I don't think thats the case either. However, implimenting these changes will essentially create the Star Wars feel we are all desperately searching for. Its the sort of thing we wanted and expected when we first heard about this game, and SOE lost many paying customers by making the mistakes that were made. Thats not to say they can't bring these customers back though. If we can stop looking at future expansions (and by expansions, I mean just more graphics, and boring missions) and start looking at how we can "polish" this game, than we will certainly see a HUGE population boost. It can happen. I can see it working. I only hope SOE sees this thread and takes it to heart.

Also, Abale, you brought up the correspondent. I lose track of who is what these days, too many changes, who is the JTL correspondent currently?

* Oh, also wanted to mention that I may add some minor details to this post from time to time. I will notify all when this takes place. I also am doing something similar for the GCW, conviently titled, "Polishing the GCW", so look for that one soon as well.

if anything you should be able to travel directly to any planet if u have a ship. How much time is wasted everytime u need to go to kashyyyk? 3 loads, 2 of htem can be very long.

I don't know R9D14. I can see it getting annoying at times. But, the benefit of it is it creates a more realistic environment. Right now, I agree with you, travelling through space is boring and just eats up time. But, if the changes mentioned above were implimented, I feel having this travelling through space mandatory would be nice. Just clicking a button and then being on another planet, for me, eliminates the fun of actually getting there.

I would love to run into one of those patrols mentioned, or pirates, or whatever... They could make it an option, but, if it were me, all travelling from planet to planet, except that of the public transportation, would have to manual rather instant.

Any word on the JTL correspondent? Do we even have one anymore? If so, I would like to hear what we have planned and what exactly SOE is considering in regards to this.

I said I would post here when I started working on the "Polishing the Galactic Civil War". Well, I've done better than that, its finished and on the boards! Head on over there to leave what comments you may have. Use the link in my sig to get there with ease.

So, for those that like the ideas presented in this thread, what do you like the most?

And for those that dislike it, what do you dislike the most about it?

I agree with RD419. I am not only a space character, but an accomplished ground character. Man the mandatory space travel would be annoying I would just buy ticket. Plus if they added that, you know how hard it would be to find a mark with a bounty hunter. It would be hard to organize groups and such, and just a plain mess. Now I see it would add immersiveness, but you can't forgot real life time constraints and fun as well. The travel option also increases the number of pilots. I mean, if I wasn't already, I would become a pilot to wave travel fees. That's basically all the travel option is. A wave on travel fees. To instantly spawn at a planet, you want to pay money and wait 5 minutes? Sorry all, but I think the travel option should be left in.

Points well taken. I can see the need for an option to have instanced travel. However, I do hope that one day we shall reach the point where one would rather travel manually. Why would one want to do this? Because of all the fun you can get out of the random patrols, flying to the rebel fleet, etc...

As has been suggested on my Polishing the GCW thread, I am currently looking into how PvP can be improved on both the ground and in space. I'm curious to see what any of you have conjured up? Lets here those ideas!

Any bounty hunter that isn't also a pilot in a Star wars game should be at quite a disadvantage. My reasoning for removing the travel button is not really explained all that well but it is mainly to encourage more people to enter space. Whether it be POB's transporting folks, fighters fighting, smugglers smuggling or bounty hunters chasing down their mark (Droids do give wps in space if they go there in case you didnt know ), space should be an integral, even central, part of this game. It's Star Wars.

Star = in space

Wars = on the ground or in space (or underwater...but that's another story)

So, alleviating the travel button would simply force more people to enter space to get to where they need to go, just like Kashyyyk. There are other concerns, especially considering Artisans that Harvest from multiple planets would certainly have their gaming experience altered significantly if they were not also pilots. But as the dev's have said in regards to artisans having trouble due to CL problems and creature spawns in the wild, they encourage crafters hiring bodyguards. So why not also have to hire pilots?

Master Pilots all want more content. Player driven content is really what this game has always been about anyway /shrug. The two kinda fit together.

Now in my opinion, the immediate need for space is more capital ships. I know the ONE, sadly one, Star destroyer in the game has some lag issues... Honestly, sometimes I have problems with it and other times I have no problems at all it is really strange....but, when I am standing on the ground on whatever planet, and I look up in the sky and see 3 star destroyers, when I launch into space, there dang well better be three star destroyers sitting above the planet!

Drives me nuts that you have to be a master pilot in order to encounter a star destroyer...one of, if not THE, most iconic of all star wars symbols...

My one thought on this-if we had more "control" over going back to ground from space, if they made it so you got to see your ship going into the hangar, even flying it in, isn't Theed laggy enough?

You bring up a good point and its certainly something to keep in mind. I just feel however, that in regards to at least seeing your ship in the hangar, it doesn't actually have to be in the setting of Theed itself. What I mean by this is, all you would see is your ship, the starport walls surrunding it, etc... Doesn't necessarily mean that these graphics per se are actually in the same location as the real starport. Sort of like instanced missions.

Don't really know the terminology to explain myself on that one, but I tried. Lag is an issue though, and if it were possible to do this without lag then I say go for it, otherwise, its probably not worth it.

I would like to see a bit more complexity to the mechanics. Make the flying a littlemore realistic like a combat flight simulator. They originalywanted skill to play a huge part of jtl, but right now the mechanics and strategy aren't very deep. Sure, the game is fast, but speed doesn't equal depth..
