If they focus on say 1 km x 1 km x 1 km of HAND-CRAFTED city, then the developers could use MANY tricks to reduce frame rate. Look at Taris on KOTOR. Same kind of ideas at play here. If they had decided to do loading zones with SWG, there's no doubt SWG would've looked/played much better. There'sno question as to wether or not they have a talented art team, they do, it's just that they're limited by the 'great' idea of a large nonezoned world.
WoW pulls it off because it's very simple,very little in the way ofpolygons, it'sjust thatthose polygons are put to good use, and the colors are very vibrant making for a very atmospheric enviroment. It managed to pull off it's art style very well. The idea of Star Wars just does not fit into a simple and low-polygon enviroment, but instead it should be detailed, high-poly and just 'look good'. I can't really put it into words too well.
I only use WoW as an example because it's the only MMO I've played that uses the same no loading zones idea.
