Thread: Rating guide for all player pilotable ships in PvP

Somehow I don't think the Nova's [Spdx 0.8 Acc 5 Dec 5 Pitch 50 Yaw 50 Roll 37.5] compares very well with the X-wing's [Spdx 0.95(Foils Closed) 0.90(Foils Open) Acc 25 Dec 30 Pitch 300 Yaw 200 Roll 150].
To the contrary, with a max-PYR experimented Mark V engine, the Control-V PYR rating of the Nova Courier/YT-1300/Decimator is 1.2. That type of engine is used in this ship to plug up it's biggest deficit, which is admittedly it's baseline maneuverability. By contrast, using a max speed experimented Mark V engine in an Advanced X Wing (playing towards it's strength, which is natural speed, and allowing it's natural handling abilities to take care of themselves) yields a control-V PYR of 1.1.
Naturally, since the chassis of the Advanced X Wing is inherently better than the chassis of the POB ships in terms of base maneuverability, using the same engine in each ship would give the X Wing a better rating. But even with a modestly more maneuverable engine in the POB ship (in this case about 5-6 extra PYR on the engine), the POB ship has a tighter turn radius at it's optimal throttle position (approximately 50-60%).
I'm not saying that the POB ships flat-out out handle the X-Wing. Their PYR accelleration is average at best, but they do have a remarkably small turning radius for a ship of their size, and can easily outmaneuver a B-Wing. I simply feel that the original poster understated the characteristics of the POB ships. They're certainly not the most sluggish ships in the game, and considering their firepower can be brought to bear by skilled gunners without having to turn the ship around, I'd even rate their firepower above that of the B-Wing. My guild certainly has no fear of taking our YT-1300 and Nova Courier into PvE battle against any kind of ship, from Capital ships to swarms of tier 4 or tier 5 fighters, or Gunboats. They're exceedingly hard to master for both the pilot and crew but when everyone's on top of their game they're very sturdy, powerful ships, and maneuverability and speed are certainly not liabilities, even if they aren't strengths either.
