I usualy eat the cake to avoid the critical and then start experimenting 2 at a time.. if I geta moderate I then use bespin port and go 3 boxes at timeto recover.. usually only lowers the condition a bit when I get a moderate. I only do this when I know I have to make like 8 power hammers and I dont want to wait all day for my stomach to clean out.

It sounds to me like you ran into a crappy weaponsmith or an unhonest weaponsmith. It just may have been a really bad luck day for the guy or the guy just didnt know what he was doing. Does the guy have a good reputation on your server for making weapons or did you just find him randomly? I would hate for it to be an unhonest weaponsmith but you never know.
