You need to understand the difference between an originalhelmet and the JtL.

The one we have is a pretty simple mesh that replaces whatever your head/hair/face look like with an overall, near the correct size, Rebel flight helmet.

Theoriginal helmets ingame that show some or all of the face need different variations, and several sets of "rules" to account for race and gender. Plus, all the rules for different lighting conditions, and clipping during animations must be accounted for.

One of these is pretty easy to make, and the other a lot more labor intensive. It's pretty obvious they took the quick and easy path with JtL gear, quantity over quality, and I seriously doubt they'll go back and change things, or make any attempt to be consistent.

Yep, that is absolutely why... I don't think they've ever even tried to hide that fact.
During JTL Beta... we had a bunch of discussions about these helmets with TH.

At that time... he said that the ANH Rebel Helmets (In-game on Rebel Guard NPC's) were being worked on to be a loot item for some time in the future.

So, I suppose the good news is that they do consider it viable to do... but they haven't gone and done it (And that was a while ago now...).

The only thing they've added as head-wear with an open face since the game shipped (Correct me if I'm wrong) is the hooded cloaks.

I too think that it's a shame... while I understand the technical difficulties in implimenting such things... I believe these are things worth the efforts.

I still expect them to dish out some of these things in a future GCW Expainsion.

Well it is possible, just look at Chitin.

But there are more important things to add and fix i'm afraid. It would make my day if they snuck this in sometime in the near future, however

I never said it was impossible, I was saying there's been fundamental changes in the design process that means the same amount of detail and attention has not been applied to items since. I seriously doubt they will ever revisit existing items and revamp them to the improved state.

A TRUE Rebel Pilot helmet needs to be put in. It's crazy, in NO instance in ALL the movies, did we see Rebel Pilots wear a face mask. Helmets w/ visors, that's it.

In a thread I posted in the GCW Forums, I suggested in addition to the TRUE Rebel Pilot Helmet the following:

* Make the Rebel Flightsuits looser fitting. They weren't wearing spandex!

* Add gear to the Rebel Flightsuits (there were boxes and kits carried on every Rebel Pilot in the movies).

* Make the yellow-ish visor lowerable or raised while equipped. Sort of the same way with the Collector's Edition Goggles, with a radial menu. Also a UI command line to raise or lower the visors, so it can be done on the fly for a player.

* Customizable Rebel Pilot Helmet decorations. There was a wide variety of decorations applied by each pilot. Take the Starship Texture Kits and Paint Kits as an excellent means of customization. The Texture Kits to allow different designs and the paint kits for the coloring.

And we are paying them how much each month for sub-standard "easy" work??

Come on Devs - put aside those other "periphery" projects (like Image Designer tents, chefs hats, etc)and give us the REAL Star Wars content webought this game for!

I must agree.

This one looks more like the helmet with the blast-shield Luke wore when practicing with the remotes on the Falcon.

I have been wanting one for my toon since I started.

Look at the swoop helmet, seems to me to be "open-faced".

Then the B-wing pilots need their special helmet, remember it too was different.

As far as the other species go, well, you never saw a bacon-headed Ithorian wearing one didja? Or a wookie?

Even the Sullustans didn't get one, (Ears must be too big.)

So no need to make it fit everyone. (Although why it wouldn't fit Zabraks mystifies me).

It would be a great loot item.

Or a Tier reward.

To take the customization thing in a different direction, think about this:

According to where you start your training, you are considered part of a different "squadron"; i.e.-Storm Squadron, etc.

What if upon reaching, say, Tier 3, you recieved a helmet that was specific to your squadron?

Or even a badge or something to signify which one you are in.

I also think that rank bars would be something nice for uniforms.

And back to the loot item thing, back in the wars, soldiers often took enemy helmets as souveniers or momentos.

I would like to be able to loot helmets and even uniforms from the enemy, even if I can't wear them, the decoration would be nice sitting on my fireplace.

The fact of the matter is, as much as people would like to have this helmet .. its highly unlikely we will ever see it. I mean, we have the endor helm ingame and coded and yet for some odd reason we can no longer get the reward. You really think they are going to add a whole new helmet when they arent even using what they have?

LOL
Please stop upsetting me with logic!

We want the helmets! *covers ears with hands* We want the helmets!

Hehe, seriously though... to this day, no one seems to have figured out why they took those ROTJ helmets out of circulation. It's not like they were a rare loot drop... they were a blasted reward during the rebel theme park.

I'm gonna get back on that case.

My opinion: A complete, specific set of flight gear should be issued to all JTL Pilots as soon as they take up a squadron.

The special thing with the Alliance is the various types of flightsuits and helmets seen in the movies. Probably get a set of the special _-Wing flightsuits at the appropriate box. Random thoughts:
* Generic flightsuit and TRUE Rebel helmet at Novice.
* The TRUE X-Wing flightsuit at 3xxx.
* The A-Wing flightsuit and helmet at 4xxx
* The B-Wing flightsuit and helmet at Ace.

Absolutely! Don't make the REAL Rebel Flight helmet any kind of "reward" or "loot". Issue it straight off!!! I mean really, when did Luke have to "loot" his?? - - it was ISSUED to him!
