I did this mission solo today as a 3/3/3/3 Rebel pilot. I didnt use any missles at all. Take out the escorts, then follow the vette till about 8k away from the rebel statiion. Fly right up on top of it at weapon 5. Take out weapon 5, then fly about 1k in front of the vette, turn around and charge her with shields or secondary shields targted. In one pass you can take one of them out with out problem. after the pass fly to the side with no weapon 5. Turn around and then repeat until both shields are gone.

Once both shields are gone drop back and hit the engines. After you control it, it is a cakewalk. Dont shoot the gunboats. Theyll never destroy the vette (as far as i have seen at least) and kill the fighters to make this mission simple.
