yeah when it goes nuts things lag up, but u can kill the ISD to clear all the ships, reb and imp npc dissapear clearing up alot of lag.... its a shame there isnt a timer that resets the sd and reb station every so often so that all the npc's in the system are cleaned out.

Nothing like that .. I do some monsterous lag when I first get there cause there's always a boatload of rebel ships stuck to the sides of the ISD ... 100 guns and effectivly shooting itself trying to kill the loads of B-wings smashing into it's hull like moths beating on a lightbulb.

Easy fix is to kill the ISD. Then the rebel ships, while the ISD is respawning, will go on their merry way. By the time the ISD is fully respawned, the ships are far beyond the aggro range to reengage the ISD. It should take another 30 minutes for the imp ships to repopulate the sector. I may be incorrect on the timing. If you're imp, I suggest calling on a rebel to kill it for you.

I know this is an old thread but I also have the same issue, and I think it has more to do with the shielding particle effects than it does with the lasers. I got the same kind of lag when some player was shooting his blasters at the Kashyyyk Neutral Station in such a way that his bolts grazed along side the shielding creating a 'particle snake' effect. My framerate went down to 1 or 2.
When I went into deep space and saw the same thing my first thought was the shielding particle effects...

Add Lightning to the mix while you're at it. There are some nebulas where my screen freezes for nearly a minute when a major lightning strike happens while I'm fighting there.

I also think a lot of the freeze up is being caused by the shield flare of the ISD. I've noticed when [people] shoot the planetary starbases for fun, repeatedly, frame rate drops pretty much all across the board.

I agree that's part of it, but I've been driven to 3-6 FPS by a Star Destroyer shooting at nothing but little old me, and missing completely. That thing puts a LOT of shots out, and its a lot for any system to render out. Particularly the guns on the aft and front quarter of the ship. The superstructure guns around the bridge aren't that bad at all.
