Trying to grind XP like that sounds rather boring. I have helped people get XP in space many times and the method you describe is by far the slowest.

Most times now I have them take a tier 4 duty mission (if you can't get the XP you need for tier 1 and 2 you are beyond my help...) and I will fly it with them. I let them pick the ship we are killing and after they hit it once we both blaze away at it. I was able to help someone get 540K XP in about an hour this way.

For a group of three or four of you at tier 2, I would recommend you look around in Kashyyyk space. There are many large repeating spawns of tier 2 and tier 3 ships. These respawn instantly and make for great grinding.

Fiddling around trying to disable ships for someone is probably the worse way to help someone get XP. While it is possible and I have done it myself, there are simply too many better ways to grind your way up the pilot tree.

Don't forget the inspiration buff either!
