Exactly, the Jedi Starfighter is actually Darth Vader's old ship, everyone has one because he is a exploiting duper , and in order to get it you must do quests that are Imperial Combatant or Special Forces only.

After getting the ship you can drop your Imperial faction and your piloting skills and start as a Rebel. Once you get 4/3/3/3 you can fly it as a Rebel. But you can only fly it if you get to the point in the quest in which Vader gives you the ship.
