You have to get blank command chips from a DE to program commands into.

Do you need to buy a special droid for you ship or can you use your current R2 or R3 droids?

You can use existing Astromechs.

I use my crafting droid on my alt's ship.

You do need a data module of the approperate pilot level to use pilot droid commands. but you can place any R sreies droid in your ship, it just wont do anything but beep at you from the socket. Also you can use them only on 4 total ships the z-95, both y-wings, and x-wing. Any other ship requires a flight computer. and dont forget to get the unprogramed droid command modules. you will need them to program your droid or to get a program from another player.

yeah, yeah, Rangers dont like droids, but I need one. Ok, my choices are either A) R3 or B) Adv Probot

so, i can either get 2 auto repair, 2 harvest and 1 trap modules, or 2 trap, 2 auto repair, 2 harvest. now, I want it to tank for a while, heal itself, and trap for me. which droid/configuration should i get?

*EDIT* im also wondering if trapping modules stack in usefulness, so are 2 trap mods better than one?

If you want your droid to harvest, then get all harvest modules. Only having a couple of modules will limit its harvesting potential, and you'll lose resources when the droid harvest for you.

As for trapping, more modules means it can store more traps. I believe however they can only ever hold one type of trap, so you'll have to fill the two modules with the same type, probably a p-dart or glow mesh type.

Yeah you dont want a mix harvester/trap droid. It really kills the harvest.

My probot is has 1 stim launcher, 1 combat module, 1 trap, 2 auto-heal. The next version of this will have 2 combat, 1 trap, 2 auto-heal modules. I like the terrain negotation skills of the Probot. The fact that it just feels more like a combat droid then then the R3. Its faster firing rate over the R3 doesnt hurt either. And the fact it has built in combat capabilities means you dont have to have combat modules in there if you dont want. It just makes it weaker.

Downside and its a big one is 1100 less HAM over an advanced R3

Some Rangers love droids. Me for instance, I routinely have 4 in my inventory - two tanks, a fighter and an all purpose healing/craft machine/storage container who even make julienne fries.

Rangers who use anything but rifles think harvest droids are stupid.

Ignore the trap part, or at best go for maybe one module. If you are going for harvesting, you will need at least a 100% (remember, thats the percentage of your harvest it is getting) so a lot of the fighting/tank stuff is out.

Yes, you are basically hosed if you want a really good tank/harvestor - not enuf modules. Oh the humanity of it all.

I use tanks and fighters, but then I use pistols and am usually close enought to harvest so a droid doesn't do that for me.

It's the number of modules able to be put into a droid. You either get a really good harvestor with one combat mod so it does not run off, or you get a fighter/tank - not both.

Not true. I'm a TKM and I use my harvest droid all the time. I also keep a combat probot handy for those times when I'm trying to beat something down that has high kinetic resists. The gurks all scatter in terror when they hear that al-djinn'i and, er, Proby are on the warpath.

Now if we could only have two droids out at the same time...
