Boosters, apparently. Its one of the upgrades you can get. I didn't like them when I saw them in JTL screenies a few weeks back...but they've grown on me...

Actually, every ship has two styles of engine. Usually the second style appears more with higher level looted components.

Boosters on the X-Wing are actually flat panel slits on each wing. Totally different.
