Well the good fellows at SOE have done it again.

Black Epsilon mission 3 is competely ridiculous, and it't not becaus of too many fighters, or the fact that all the fighters are extremely strong, or anything like that.

Missions starts off pretty easy, fly to point, dock with shuttle defend. Done. Np.

Then it says to intercept a group of fighters and a rebel emissary ship.

Fighters are Tier 3, Emissary ship is tier 4... and it has turrets. That means you die in about 5 seconds because it doesn't matter what direction he's pointing, he is shooting you, with 2 different weapons! My shields are 1000 front and back and have a recharge of 7.61. The mission was litterally over in 5 seconds, my shields went down with 3 shots, my armor with 1, and then my ships started moving much slower and everything went red while I got pounded.

It might be possible to beat this mission with enough friends but anything that tier 4 ship goes after dies. 2 Weapons firing non stop no matter what doesn't make sense.

Accuracy is way too high with turrets. I remember squeaking by a mission early on that involved the millenium falcon. He had no escorts and it was all i could do to destroy his weapons before he destroyed me. That was almost an even fight.

Possible fix would be to drop the dmg of the turrets or better yet drop the accuracy. They don't seem to miss much, even when the ship is moving.

For this mission I think lowering that ship to a tier 3 is necessary, at tier 4 it's weapons are way too powerful against the ships that are doing that mission.

Update, have run this mission again and something occurred that might help.

The second time I attacked head on and used overloaded weapons 2 and barely scratched the armor of the Nova. After circling around and coming back I noticed my shields where gone as well as a large chunk of armor. Once I was lined up the Nova hit me a few more times and I died. My partner who was also in a tie Interceptor was not attacked but between the 2 of us we made the shields go down to 62% before i exploded. Add to that the fact that we hit it on the front and the back and you'd realize we dropped the front and rear shields a total of 15%. And after one pass the ship was able to destroy me with ease. This doesn't even count as a scratch. To scratch you'd have to break through the shields and hit armor, and then you'd have to drop that to 50%, assuming that u were able to hit the same side the whole time, then you'd have to take down weapon 1 and then weapon 0. This wouldn't be too bad if it were a tier 5 ship going up against it, but players are at tier 3 ships when this mission comes up.

One promissing note I came across during this mission:

All the enemies only attacked me, they completly ignore my partner, once I died all the ships disappeared. I'm not certain if this was because I went in first or if that is the way the mission goes. Next attempt will be me trying my hardest to draw their fire while my team mate takes out the main ship. Hopefully it will work.

Has anyone passed this mission? If so could you explain how you did it?

Yup, I had the exact same problem. I have nice, player-crafted Tier 3 shields - 1500 front/back, and a good Tier 3 weapon, 1700-2200 damage.

Every shot from the Nova takes out about a third of my shields, and it can hit me wherever I am, with ridiculously accurate shots. It seems like it'd take 4-5 people just to have enough cannon fodder to take the ship out.

If missions are going to require 4-5 people just to pass, then I don't think I'll be playing JTL much longer. I play with a small group of friends, and only one other is already at Tier 3. It's very rare that we're all on at once. Are we forced to be stuck at Tier 3 or Tier 4 because we don't play with enough people? That's absurd.

/eweapons is your friend.

I was able to barely solo this mission using /eweapons just as I came into range of the Nova. Had the eject button lit up while I took out the escorts, but fortunately nothing too critical had been destroyed by the Nova.

I'm baaaaaack
And it looks like I'll be going again.

Tier 3 missions are designed to be handled in groups. A group in my guild did it with 2 people tonight, it was a little close but they did it.

Grab a hunting partner - both use Eweapons and the nova is toast.

i did it with a partner. most people are grouping with 3-4 other people. don't be afraid to group.

You guy's are such whiney little girls.

I've started with Novice and im doing Tier 4 and no one as ever helped me. Why you ask? Because I spent time disabling stronger ships engines andtaking better components for my ship.

Quit being lazy.

Can someone explain eweapons? Are these blasters that specialize in shield damage, or missles that do teh same? Grouping I'm sure will help with this mission, but I am trying to find ways to get past this mission solo. Groups are fine but shouldnt' be required.

As for rebel pilots having little trouble, from what I understand, the rebel ships are far more generous on mass than imperial ones. The imperials are forced to prioritize what goes on their ships first. 50k for tier 3 items goes pretty quick. Most of the loot I'm using is still designed for tier 2/1 ships and the items i'd replace them with have 5x-10x the mass for a very slight performance increase.

Eweapons is short for "Emergency weapons". Basically, it's an Imperial Pilot special. It diverts power to the weapons causing from what I have seen "massive damage". Shields and other systems lose power however. It's a tradeoff for offensive capability versus defensive.

How about you mind your own business and not flame us? You're a Rebel pilot, you obviously haven't gone on the same path. Notice all the people who seem to be having trouble with Tier 3 missions are Imperial pilots? Imagine that.

Uh huh. You also get a 3p/2m 100k mass ship at 3xxx. We get a TIE/In with 10k tacked on, and somehow the TIE Bomber becomes a prize dogfighter? W-T-F.

Ah, eweapons, I dont' think i've ever used that. I'd used Weapon Overload 2 and really like that but will have to try e-weapons tonight and see how that goes.

soloed it but is not easy.

basically you need a diversion to be able to hit consinstently the nova with /eweapon

if you have a friend with you (better with bombing) make him attack first to attrack enemy fire then jump the nova targetting the engines first. so it can't move anymore and you have time to go exit from the range of it's turret and destroy the escort.

a little trick (the way i soloed it) is to lure it near some npc ties (for example at an imp base)

the npcs will not last too much but will give you enought time to take out the nova engines.

beware to the B-wing in the escort is the first escort ship you have to destroy.

maybe for this mission, and doing it with friends a bomber can be quite helpfull, expecially if armed with a lv7 1500 shield, a good armor and 2 lv7 2400dmg weapons, with /ewepon and some missiles it can deal with the nova. but a suggestion, maybe will it better that will not be the people who have the mission to use the bomber, because it can be an easy target by the escort and if the player die the mission is cancelled.

and last thing....

is it not true that all tier3 mission have to be done in group.....

Smuggler alliance or rebel havoc missions are a lot easier than the imp ones, not to say that they have also ships more suited to this kind of missions.
