Thread: Having sick fun with Jousting Teir4 TIE's

Im sure Imp pilots can do the same with their own heavy bomer types but....

Loadup a longprobe with some Teir 8 weapons and shields. Like 2400+ shields, and two weapons that are like 2000-3000 damage range or greater (tier 8+ stuff). Nevermind the engine, tier 4 or 5 is all you need, tops.

Just cruise at 1/3rd throttle, you'll only be doing like 180- speed or so. Link your cannons in one group, and have fun disabeling TIE's on their first pass. One pass, one TIE, the firepower you can bear down is sick. If your really quick, you can take out two TIE's in one pass.

Its just sick sick sick, and fun in a giddy sort of way considering how annoying they are trying to legitimatly dogfight them.

My longprobe, i have renamed it to "Jousting GunTurret". Seriously, its way faster, alot more fun, and far more efficient doing duty missions with that ship then with an Xwing or Awing.

Pretty sad AI from last patch. Like shooting sitting ducks in a shooting gallery.

A good TIE Pilot can nuke X-Wings, full throttle, head on, in one pass...no need to disable or leave anything behind except for the bleeding remains of the disillusioned martyr of the rebellion. The trick is Weapon Overload 3...point and shoot...simple.

Ya but disableings more fun. That way you get to hear the Jackbooted facist whine , "Hold your fire, im an imperial pilot!"

Wow, that's exactly what I am doing with TIEs in my Longprobe. The Longprobe is perfect for this because of the narrow cone of fire on its weapon mounts. I find I can blow up the Fighters (and sometimes the Bombers) just by jousting with them. The especially fast ships, though, require a second pass. Admittedly, this might due to the fact that at 1/3 throttle, I am doing more in the neighborhood of 260 than 180. It rocks to watch them explode AROUND my viewport.

Whats disappointing is how cheap/cheesy doing this is as compared to trying to dogfight in an X wing or A wing.

I renamed my ship "Jousting GunTurret" for a reason. Its like im sitting in a 360 degree revolving gun turret, not flying a ship. The only reason im at 1/3rd throttle is so the Y wing turns at its optimum rate, if it werent for that, i woudlnt have to put any throttle to the engines at all.

They fly right for you, in straight lines 90% of the time. All i have to do is line up my crosshairs center of mass. A tight cone of fire with two Lvl 8 cannons does very short work of any Tie the mission throws at you. You really dont have to disable them at all, but disableing is faster, and if your quick enough you can take two ties out on one pass.

Jousting is so lame, I havn't done any of my missions since the last patch. Atm I am 4/3/3/3 reb., and this is, plane and simple not dogfighting, spaceship fighting, I don't know what it is but hopefully it was not intended. I rem what it was like in beta also, yep allways took our one or two on the first pass as you say, but it was kinda like the ground game, no skill at all. I have helped out a few friends on their missions, but since the ai is not solely focused on me, they don't joust me, so I can play, I just refuse to do anything solo untill this is corrected.

I started this thread with the agenda of dissing the AI even further. I agree its lame. The "tactic" that ive adopted shows it.

But hey, now that ive figured out how to have fun with it (fighting cheese with cheese so to speak), im gonna enjoy the cheesyness while it lasts. halfway through my 4th and final their4 box. Filling it should be all too easy.

I am planning to set my longprobe up with lvl 8 weapons and shields, and reactor if needed. I have a lvl 7 engine that was custom made. My longprobe is now the fastest ship I got. lol

With booster I can go 946 speed. My X-wing is only 940. Course the turning sucks but with this jousting you might as well just sit there and wait for them to come back rather than shase them.

well the jousting needs to go, the AI speed needs to get tweaked back to a normal lvl, and their handling is abnormal aswell, being able to pull off a 180 in less than a second, at max speed is a big slap in my face!

timed missions are near impossible now, each time i've gone up to do the tier3 mission3 i've come back down in defeat, not my chassis harmed, just.....they got away cause i was playing joust again!

You can avoid jousting if you simply begin your turn to follow BEFORE the ship you're targetting zooms past you. If you begin your turn AFTER, the AI keeps jousting you. If you begin your turn far in advance, they usually go into a more gradual turn.
