I was wondering if the Shipwrights could craft the Y-8 Mining Vessel yet, and lossely how much it will cost.

i dont think they can craft it at all, i think its a quest reward

In live right now Shipwrights have 2 schematics in their datapad that are for the Y-8 only, a mining grade capacitor and a mining grade reactor. Also, the pilot certification for the ship is in each Master Box, and it has been confirmed that it is a Multi-Player ship. If you read the asteroid mining article that they had a couple of weeks ago on the SWG website, it hints that obtaining the ship will be quest related. I'm guessing you will receive a limited schematic at some point. But we'll know for sure come next week.

The quest for the ship will begin on Kashyyyk apparently with some NPC miners of some sort.I know the asteroids are already flying around out there in space before the expansion, maybe we were given the schems to all these things as a pre-cursor, so we can be ready for it... kinda like a sample of things to come.

Another clear case of the devs giving shipwrights the royal shaft. First came looted components. Second came upgradeable, hyperspace-capable starterships. Now the devs are going to take the one thing thatcould have really jumped started businessand take it away from us. Here comes the killer-app for space--asteroid mining--and we won't make a credit from it. Ok, I'm being extreme, we might make some credits, but I'm pissed off and frustrated with the CU and the utterly poor qualityof this game and the post-CU experience. I'm going on a weekend long rant and I don't care. Screw the devs, their management,the producer of this game, and SOE.

Not only do they want to keep us from building it, they want to make us dependent on it by putting astroid-only resources in the new shipwright schematics, like the heavy x-wing strakes.
I'd rather have good loot as opposed to no good components. Read "Dead Loot System" in the JTL forum; it has some good ideas for fixing the problem.
Edit: I just found out that the minimg cargo bays require astroid minerals to build... How does that work? Which comes first, the chicken or the egg?
Where do we get the astroid minerals if we need to build the mining units with the material we are supposed to mine?

I'll have to go reread the article on space mining, and some of the random posts about it based on hacking the tre files, but, I was under the impression that the reward was a one use schematic. If this is the case I don't have a problem with it, they still have to come to us. I don't like the master cert though =( My shipwright is an alt, and has no pilot skills. I can always use my main, he is master imp, but it does kind of suck that I have to use him to get resources for my shipwright =(

you don't have to use him, it's very easy to lvl up a crafter in space as your ground level has no impact. I have a 100% crafter that is a master pilot. I'm only now starting to work on my fighting chars to get their pilot skills up. I'll probably hit master pilot on my jedi by the end of this week.

I'm ok with the mining ship being a quest reward. I predict the quest reward will be a one time use schematic, and the quest won't be repeatable. That's how they handled the Droid Head quest.

That is dumb. Well, i assume the ship is either unattackable or never decays. Becuase it if dies and you are true. We will be screwed and i sure in hell will flame the devs harshly for the first time. Most of my rants have been very mild.

hopefully if you loose your Y-8 then you can rerun the quest!!!!
