I know there's at least one website that sells activation keys (they get the boxes and the sell activation keys), maybe a viable solution for people who don't wanna wait 10 more days

Good question, cause if that was the case, i have a friend in America who could buy a copy and send me the activation key. Then send the copy via snail mail.
Is the JTL CD needed to play? Americans your help here would be appreciated.

you need the cd. the people who dont have jtl enabled only get the bear minimum in the patches, we dont even get the icons for the new stuff. Oh yeah and we are not impatient its just the idiot Americans that decided to join the Euro servers have a major headstart. This means they will all be master pilot and shipwright while we are just about to put our CD into the drive, this means theyll own us in PvP and stolen the ship building market

If you have really REALLY nice American friend, you can ask them to buy one and send you the key then image the CD and send it to you as well. (gmail works well)
Then you can play the game in matter of hours, depending on how fast you can download the image.
Ask your PA mates

yeh that would work. Ask a US PA friend to buy a copy for you. Send the CD key via email then make a copy of the disk ISO and sedn that via a file transfer program. Highly illegal but its a qucik way out of the solution that SOE and activision have put us in.

You guys sure you need the CD? I don't think you do...
I activated my account last night for JtL, by using the key only, didn't bother to use the CD at all. When I rebooted, I had a nice juicy 700 MB patch to download. Seeing as the remaining download time on DSL was estimated at several hours, I quickly cancelled, and then installed the CD content instead. The patching time was then reduced to 25 minutes.
Once the CD key is enabled, the launchpad will determine what info you need versus what you already have, and download the balance, methinks. Might take you awhile, but at least it's better than waiting a couple of weeks.
Just a thought.

Nothing illegal about this that I can see.
You can't play the game without a key, so the cd's are useless to anyone else, also, you are allowed to makes copies of your own cd's for your own use.

I'm pretty sure you still need the CD for the base JTL content. Remember the beta wasa 2.4 gig download. No way they compressed all that into a 700meg patch.

The JtL content fits on one single CD, and is roughly 650-700 MB in size. The patching from there isn't all that much more. Remember - several substantial patches were pushed through to live last week as well. I'm just letting you know my experience with activating my own account. Hopefully someone else can confirm with a similar experience. But don't take my word for it, if you don't wish to.
I'm almost positive that remember reading somewhere on the Beta boards that the Devs purposely are giving subscribers the option to either d/l the content themselves or install the CD content.

Beta wasn't a 2.4 gig download, the actual beta content was only around ~650MB or so. The 2.4 gigs was the patcher copying over your live installation to the new directory. Nothing was actually being downloaded, just copied over. This isn't neccesary with a normal retail installation of JTL.
