Has anyone considered how JTL will impact the populations on the existing ground servers? Lets say for example that a certain percentage of players will spend most of their time in space. Is this going to lead to there being less people on the ground PvP, trade, causing lag, or anyother purpose? Assuming it will lessen the load on the ground servers, will the Dev's increase the amount of players allowede per server? Create new servers? Or will the increase in players buying SWG because of JTL offset that?
How will the new marketfor shipbuilding resources impact, other markets? Will the price of weapons go up because there is less cooper available to use for that. My understanding is that ships are pretty resource intensive.
Will ground PvP become more scarce as players seek pvp in space.
Anyone else pondered these type questions. These are just a few, Im sure there are many other potential impacts on the game.

I'm guessing that PVP on the ground will become all but nonexistent for the first few months JTLS is out.
Resources are so easy to come by at this point (who DOESN'T have 10-20 of each type of harvester at 13 BER?), so I doubt this will be an issue.

You can have the ground game, i dont want it. The less im on the ground, the happier i'll be.

More people = more lag. The less on the ground, the better! Just so long as vendors are kept stocked, and people populate the cantinas, and people continue buffing, I'm happy. And the Village will always have grinders in it.

I bet for the first few months you will be had pressed to fine ppl on the ground, at least not like it is now. But it will balance out after a bit of time. I'm wondering what all the jedi will do while everyone else is in space

It all depends.
1. How many new people will JTL attract? What percent of those people just want a flight sim vs what percent are being attracted to the MMO experience that includes a flight sim with a ground game.
2. Where is it more efficient to make money? Is it more efficient to grind cash on the ground killing jantas, or can you make adequate cash in space? A person who can do Janta missions on Dant may be at a significant financial advantage to someone who tries to only generate cash in space.
3. How many old people who quit are coming back?
What I think you will see is something like:
Existing player base, lets say it is 1000 per server. At any time half of the folks will be in space and half will be on the ground.
New players, lets say you get 300 per server. I would think the majority will be in space most of the time. Say 200 in space vs 100 on the ground.
Lets say 300 old folks return to the game. As with existing players about half at any time are in space and half on the ground.
Net effect, there are 600 more people per server, however 250 less that are consistantly on the ground. However, most everyone will be on the ground at some time. So I think the demand for food, armor, buffs etc will stay the same and not drop off. More people will need them, just less frequently.
Yes, planet play will be a little less populated, but to me that is a good thing. Now there will be 6 people instead of 10 at Ft Tusken. 10 people instead of 20 at Geo cave. 30 people instead of 50 at the village.
The GCW and PVP on the ground may take the hardest hit. But I think there will be more than enough people on the ground to keep a vibrant gaming experience.

I belive prices will go up on regular items like weapons, deeds and armor. Why? Because many crafters will go shipwright, and if I have understood the shipwright-system, you have to use the skillpoint you already got. That means, alot of architects, WS and AS etc etc will drop their "ground"-profession and go for shipwright. There will always be a market for components, like it is now for weapons and armor. And when they introduce new ships, new components etc, shipwrights will get a boost in business.
But I truly hope that our furture shipwrights set their prices high. Very high. As a veteran architect, I have seen how the buyer is running the market, with BER13s going for 90k a piece and small houses for 6k. That is not good business. I hope they will do as many businessowners in RL does, and go for the large profits, becasuse people will pay whatever they have to, to get the best parts and ships. No point is loosing creds just to sell much.
I will go shipwright, but keep my architect. There will be a large demand for harverster, and resources, and I hope the architectcommunity will boost prices when JTL hit the shelves. JTL can become a revolution in the good economic system in SWG, and take away much of the "Well, I need a couple of mill, so I will just go out and grind some jantas"-syndrome. People can get jobs that actually creates something and the market will be stable, prices reasonable and the profits of a good days work, large.
Go crafters! You are the backbone of SWG, creating peoples houses, weapons, armor and droids. And don't forget the chefs and docs. Without them, we would all have a hard time.
Can't wait for JTL to hit the shelves!

take a shuttle, fly to a player city

This is me to the letter. While ive played ALOT of MMO's, the only thing that lured me here was JTL. There is nothing the ground game offers that i have not already bored myself to tears with in another MMO. Other players who joined this game for similar reasons are probably doing so to establish a nest egg of cash and resources before launch.
Infact, i think i'll probably go with surverying and shipwright. This way i'll me that much more independant of the ground game, can take care of my own needs, so i can focus on where the real game is at. Point being, motivations like mine contribute nothing to the player economy. If enough people put themselves in a bubble independant of the ground, it could leave a mark. But chances are there are not enough players like myself to do any serious damage to the ground game, so i woudlnt be overly concerned.
I know this much though, JTL goes live, docs have one less supplier of meat

I wouldnt mind a reduction in ground population... Ive been around since the first month and back then a guy had some elbowroom. right now its Corecent (sp?) everywhere you go.
they REALLY need to add some square footage to the Dant mining op cantina/med center.... peeps be stacked to the ceilings in there sometimes.

Well I can say that at least 80% of my time will be on the ground. I dont wanna go from a good RPG type fight game to a flight sim rpg type fight game. Having a ship to move around on and do a few quests/fights in space is about all i'll do.

When the whole "New toy" thing with JTL will wear off, I'd imagine that both would be roughly equal. I'd assume that Space will be more for the PvP type, as it's hard to imagine "Ultra-Phat Lewt" to drop in space ("SELLING: DEATH STAR ENHANCED COMPOSITE AND SPACE SLUG EMHANCED JAWAS AND GEO GUNS!")
Of course, for the first month, expect every city but Coronet to be a ghosttown (Like most are already)
