In my opinion and the opinion of many others, it was agreed that I should compile all the direct Developer answers to the "A Question A Day for the Dev's" Hopefully, as the "Essential Dev Posts and Links" has helped players new to Jump to Lightspeed to get acquainted with the facts, I hope this post will help everyone to find some of the Dev answers they need about Jump to Lightspeed questions.

I will update this post as more questions are answered directly by the Dev's. I will also go through all the questions and update them with answers we have through the Official JTL website.

Also, make sure to check Cuality's Indirect Dev Answers to the "A Question A Day" questions.

Here are the answered questions:

Q: Will Ship Wrights need to be Overt to craft factionally aligned ships in the upcoming JTL expansion?
A: Janson - I doubt it. We tend not to force crafters to be overt.

Q: Will shipwright be a natural continuation of the Master Artisan's vehicle schematics (MA being the prerequisite) or will it be treated as just another elite crafter profession off of the engineering IV line?
A: SaleusCorwen - this is still under discussion by the design team.

Q: Will there be radar/sensors in the ships as in X-Wing Vs Tie Fighter that show where other ships are, I have not seen it in any screenshots
A: Dewolow – There is a radar and you should have seen it in the screenshots. Unlike the overhead radar on the ground, it is more similar to space sim 3D radars where whatever is in the center bubble is in front of you and whatever is in the outer bubble is to the side or behind. (JaykLogaan, oh I’ll take the easy questions. By the way, I’m replaying Tachyon: The Fringe again right now. Nice to see your handle. That was one of the most fun projects I’ve worked on.)

Q: When will you reveal the two new species?
A: GenocideYtow – later this summer, likely through a magazine article (marketing needs something to play with )

Q: Will there be a bathroom on the YT-1300?
A: BT – Staying true to continuity, Star Wars characters do not require restrooms.

Q: Do the x-wings have shields and missiles like in the movie. or just lasers?
A: Saber1 – shields and missiles, yes. Also you can mount mini-guns on the wings.

Q: Do we non-Fan Fest but Day One (two) vets have to apply for beta, or will we simply be chosen and be informed with no active effort on our part? And if there is an application process, what is it?
A: Bugonguitar – when we get it nailed down, we will let you know. We will likely have a registration page so we choose from the vets who really want to be in Beta as opposed to someone who played once a year ago and just forgot to cancel his account.

Q: Thunderheart, in ten years can i have your job?
A: Nerfherder321 – TH is on vacation this week, so if you are available now… (kidding, TH!)

Q: Will we be able to pull our droids and have them run around on the YT-1300 deck while in flight???
A: ZuppZ – The YT-1300 acts pretty much like a house, you can decorate it, have your droids hang out, craft while in it, etc.

Q: Any plan to add Youzan Vong (New Jedi Order) as a high level NPC mob in a future dungeon or quest in space? Would be fun to explore a Vong forward recon team or something like that. The biological ships and interiors would be a welcomed and nice change of pace from caves and metal walls, would really let the art team have some fun (or headaches hehe)
A: MonroeThanes - Probably not for a long time. Yes, we have bent continuity in the past, but I think it is too early to introduce the YV to Galaxies.

Q: Can we please, pretty, pretty, please, see some pictures or video of the interior of the YT-1300? There was only one shot in PC Gamer, and it was just enough of a taste to frustrate us.

A: Tulasi Kid - We’ll work on that, although I bet you can find some good stills from Fan Fest if you look around.

Q: Will shipwright be a natural continuation of the Master Artisan's vehicle schematics (MA being the prerequisite) or will it be treated as just another elite crafter profession off of the engineering IV line? ( SaleusCorwen )
A: As of this week, the answer is now "neither". Very shortly, the JTL Professions portion of the web site will be changed. The design crew has changed the functionality a bit. If you heard the E3 buzz, you might recall us saying, "The Pilot professions will be content oriented, but the Shipwright will be skill point based to balance it with the ground game". Since then, we've changed the profession a bit.

As a result, the web site article on professions will be changing from:

"Jump to Lightspeed features three unique piloting professions which are outside of the regular Star Wars Galaxies skill points. You must go on story-driven missions to advance within them. A fourth new profession, the Shipwright comes off of the artisan profession.

to...

Jump to Lightspeed features three unique piloting professions which are outside of the regular Star Wars Galaxies skill points. You must go on story-driven missions to advance within them. A fourth new profession, the Shipwright, is a new type of novice profession that won't be a ‘starting’ profession. Look for more details on the Shipwright profession as the saga of the Jump to Lightspeed develops over the summer of 2004!

I thought it was important to let you know as soon as was possible.

And hats off to Janson from bringing back "A Question a Day"

Q: Are you planning on merging servers?

A: Nope.

Q: Where can we dig up the old polls on what new species we would like?
A: Actually, me I have most (90%+) of the old Dev and RP boards archived. The big challenge is searching through the haystack to find the needle...

Q: You aren't planning on giving the Jedi any advantages in space, are you?

A: No. Thats not fair to do in a twitch based game.

Q: So it's an elite profession (we already gathered that). But we are still wondering if it's an Engineering offshoot or Master Artisan offshoot. I can't really think what other starting profession would lead to it...Brawler? Heh.
A: No, its not an elite profession. It doesn't offshoot from either. It is something new

Q: Thunderheart, in ten years can I have your job? ( nerfherder321 )
A: Not unless Shug throws me into a Sarlacc pit, but then you'd have to take it up with him.

Q: Will we be able to pull our droids and have them run around on the YT-1300 deck while in flight? ( ZuppZ )

A: Sorry but no.

Q: Will there be any non-combat related space activities, such as, for example, trading/courier missions or exploration missions? Are there any plans to expandJtL to include merchants or prospectors or any other play styles apart from 'combat monster'? ( Dynonychus )

A: Not at this time, but in the future, there are many possibilities that we can explore.

Q: Will all types of healing work in multi-passenger ships? (i.e. medic / ent healing etc.) ( LeBob )

A: At this time, the answer is yes, but that may change in beta. We will be looking very closely at how healing shock and wounds is going to work in Space during beta.

Q: Will one of the new races have blue skin, red eyes, and black hair? Hehe I’ve really got my fingers crossed for Chiss(MonroeThanes )
A: Nope.

Q: Any plan to add Youzhan Vong (New Jedi Order) as a high level NPC mob in a future dungeon or quest in space? Would be fun to explore a Vong forward recon team or something like that. The biological ships and interiors would be a welcomed and nice change of pace from caves and metal walls, would really let the art team have some fun (or headaches hehe) (MonroeThanes )
A: No. That takes part in a timeline that is way in the future.

Q: Any word on a future monthly stories? (MonroeThanes )
A: Yes. So much effort went in to creating the Cries of Alderaan, that when we eventually ended it the devs felt that if that much work went in to creating content, that it should be part of the permanent game. The events team will continue to run events and activites, but in the future, when content is added, it will be permanent.

Darn that "droids out in starship" contradiction rises again! I want to be able to take them out and one person says you can and another says you cannot.

**hopes you can**

Maybe the confusion with the droid thing is how the question is being interpreted... if youre talking about having the droids outside on the ship body (i.e. Repair droids running around) I would guess that the answer would be no. But in terms of calling a droid while you are running around within your ship, I would imagine the answer is yes if the ship works like a house?
