Thread: Jump-To-lightspeed Counter-Question
Well, what will we be able to do if we don't buy the expansion? Will we be able to ride in other players ships, man their guns, slice them (if we're a smuggler)? If our group hops in a Falcon, will we be left behind or stuck on a "Buy the Space Expansion Now!" propaganda screen, or will we get to walk around the falcon?

Presumeably you'll be left behind, cause all the parts you describe will require programcode you'll only get when you buy SE. Don't think you already have all the parts on your HD and you'll just buy an empty box with an code to activate it.
Actually that's the way it works with most other MMOs. If you don't buy the expansion you'll still have to download most of the content through the updater, you just wont have access to it.
For example look at the way Planetside handled thier core combat expansion. If you didn't buy the expansion you had to still download all of the models, textures, sounds, etc that were included in the game since other people would be using the new content around you. You simply didn't have access to any of the new equipment or the new caves without actually buying the expansion and activating the cd key inside it.
So basically if you don't buy the expansion you'll probably still have access to some parts of it, maybe by being able to hitch a ride on a friends multiperson ship or taking a public transport up to a space station to have a look around. You just wont have full access to space or be able to own a ship for yourself, even though it makes sense to give you partial access to some things in order to intice you into buying the expansion.

Do you really think it'll only cost $20?
Gamestop has it currently listed for pre-order for $29.99. I noticed recently that the base game has dropped in price to 29.99.
I'm going off the everquest expansions I see at walmart, or bestbuy, they tend to run that much. (Wishful thinking!)
I'll gladly pay 50 for it! I'm a star wars geek!
