Thread: Best expansion? Doubtful!

I saw where JTL was voted best expansion of the year. The people who said this are RPGDOT.
One question:
Who the heck is rpgdot and because they say jtl won does it really mean anything?
They must not get out much to have voted this bug laden/ short cominggame any award much less the award of being the best.
Now the award they should bestow on Galaxies/Jtl should of been;
The game that would'va, should'va and could'va.
This would really say it like it really is.

JTL is great and fun and not that buggy compared to galaxies itself. Sure the missions are hard and sometimes a few spawning errors appear but overall its less buggy the galaxies. I enjoyed it but grow tried because i have master imperial ace and beat the rebel space station, been to every sector and done mostly every mission on each station. All JTL lacks is updates and more stuff needs to be added to keep it more interesting. Such as maybe landing and walking around on space stations(coming i hear but when is the question), or seeing the death star or being apart of the all out war against or with it. Other then that its ok and has earned the best expansion but if it gets another best expansion or if the next swg expansion is named the best of the year then i must say.....they need to get out more.

Its probably due to the fact this expansion basically added a whole new game on top of the old one. How often do you ever see that happen? Most of the time an expansion just adds a few new levels an weapons. But JTLS added a whole twitch based Starship combat system. An while it certainly has some flaws that need to be worked out its still pretty cool to have two games in one.

Honestly, I'm pretty impressed with what their doing and trying to do with SWG. First of all, JTL was the most ambitious expansion on an MMO to date. Definitely the best expansion of the year. Why? Because it added an entire new game to an already existing one. It's not the standard new zones/gear/whatever - it's an entirely new and different game. That they managed to develop it, integrate it and roll it out with minimal fuss was remarkably impressive.
Second, the much anticipated CURB is pretty impressive. Not only is it an admission that they completely screwed up on combat (which is pretty ballsy, really) but it's an attempt to completely alter it given what they've learned. Rather then patch up a leaky dam, they've decided to go and rebuild the whole thing - and they're doing it on a live game.
The thing that they screwed up in JTL was not giving the players a large enough sandbox to play in. They crafted a great, tight game that's fun, but they didn't expect players to burn through it so quickly and then discard it. Hell, after mastering I spent as much time in space as before merely because I just enjoy it. After I mastered my chosen profession on the ground game I just sort of stopped playing for awhile because I don't enjoy the act of playing as much as the act of building a character.

Show some respect and appreciation for this work. DOnt like the game? Simple. dont play it. GO, and take your whining with you.

JTL is. I think it's a clear choice.

lol, i love jtl i really do but the price you pay for expansions, imo, should include a new game in itself really, in England an expansion is £20 while a new game for pc is £30, that should mean a whole new game in itself.
Lets face it though, on its own jtl is a pretty poor flight sim, but added to swg it does become a great game. The lag seems to be non existant and im on 56k dial up so dont moan about im on an ubber leet connection coz i aint.
Lastly, (bit cheeky here,) what other expansions have came out this year? the joint ops one ? thats laughable i never heard anything about that, the ultima one, old outdated please die. So its not like there has been much competition.

You do yourself more of a disservice, by posting uneducated commentary, than you do SWG. Instead of just acting like you know and RPGDot doesn't, you should put up what expansion you think is the best and why.
JTL is the second largest MMO expansion I've played after Shadowlands for Anarchy Online. JTL rocks and can only get better.

Well, the plain and simple truth is, it isn't. It shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as "the best".
What game out here has its staff running ragged trying to keep it afloat?
Normally on on-line games you'll see patches and fixes of one or a few things.Not the revamping of practically the entire game, and while its being played. Like its happening here.
Now why is it this is being done? Because its the best?
Far from it, because people have left in masses, servers are empty, there's no denying it.
No matter what anyone thinks or says, the bottom line is straightand simple:
The devs took a game that could of been great and tore it up, hence the many changes now taking place.
These changes aren't because they like you, or want to, its because they need to keep what small amounts of people are still here.
Most of these changes should of been implemented long ago, not now.
But its too little, too late so get over it, you can't be that dense not to of figured it out by now, or maybe you can.
Its like they say, You can't cover the sky with your hand.

I'm not a fanboi or anything, but the fact is JTL added a lot to this game. It is, in fact, almost another entire game and it was an expansion. I've also had a lot of fun with it so far. But, what expansion is really better than this one this year? I haven't seen anything out there that brings as much as JTL does.

Saves me a fortune in travel fares 
And you don't need to be buffed to earn cash, for new players thats a major bonus and for peeps like me who end up spending all their cash a bit too quick. :/

Yeah, people that continue to play such a horrible game are as stupid as a pile of spit.
'Course, I think SWG and JTL are very good games, but that's just me.
