Hi all,
I'd like to know if anybody on a 56K connection has played JTL so far. I'd like to know how the game ACTUALLY plays on a slow connection, and what was your experience with it. Any feedback would help all those on a 56k (and there are many many players in this situation) decide if they should purchase theexpansion packor not.
Thank you!

I'm on cable, so I'm just going off what I've read. The missions are fine, but don't expect to be amoung the "Ubar 1337" in PVP. While JTL isn't "Lowest ping wins" You can definantly tell who is on a faster connection just by how they fly.
I don't see any reason not to get it....you shouldn't have any problems playing JTL....heck you may even be amoung the ubar 1337.

Honestly I played SWG ground game on a 56k atmyapartment while my House is being finished and it wasn't bad at all.. however I would like to know what kind of issues you bump into when the server can't predict your next move and skill is involved.
Also how long does the patch take on 56k since I will probably get stuck using that for a while till I get broadband.

Hi,
thank you for your replies. Well, I play the ground game on dial-up and never noticed any problems, even in big cities like Coronet. Bandwidth is always so amazingly low, better than FFXI.
Did you take a look at the network status popup window when playing JTL? just to know the average bandwidth of the expansion.
Thank youto all those who take the time to answer for poor dialuppers.

I'll let you know how it goes when my JTL disk arrives.
In beta I had varying experiences. The first time I flew, TIE fighters were hopping around like crazy, popping in and out of existence, one second I'd have one right in front of me, the next it was 500 m behind me...completely impossible to dogfight. But two days later I signed on, on the other beta server, and it was smooth as butter. I was even doing the Tier 1 mission 3 freelancer escort mission, and that should be one of the laggiest parts of space, with all the freighters spawning in and moving in a procession, the pirates spawning in to attack, and the players flying around shooting everything. I was flying with two other people, working on one guy's mission. I had absolutely no problems. Then the next day I signed in and flew on the same server and once again it was unplayable.
I'm curious to see how it goes myself. Maybe the live servers will be better. Will post here and let you know.

I think the title speaks for itself. Get out of the dark ages my friend. Why not play SWG on your Vic-20

I just think he's sore about not getting the CB, he's been quite a forum troll recently

The netcode did not change.
Its still using SWG's client netcode. So there is NO difference for modem users.

Okay, received my expansion disk today, and have spent the last couple of hours flying. I'm on dial-up...crappy dial-up at that, way out in the woods, old phone lines. I was apprehensive about the lag in space because I was lagging pretty bad on the ground before I went up, but space was as smooth and creamy as butter. I had only one instance where a ship in my sights disappeared and reappeared off to the side of me. Other than that, there were no skips, there was no jerkiness. It probably helps that I have a pretty nice computer. Hopefully tonight is not a fluke, and when I sign on again, it will be just as lag-free and sweet.
