I tried forum search and cannot find a definitive answer to this question.
Just today I noticed the Escape Pod button on my SoroSuub yacht and figured I'd try it. I know, I know. Anyway, my ship blows up and I'm still inside it with a bunch of wounds now. I land at the nearest starport.
But now of course, I cannot use the ship (neither "manage" nor "launch"). I can't do anything with it. The chassis and main reactor are at 0. Have I lost all the items inside? I was using my ship to display all my rare paintings and loot.
There seems to be conflicting information on the forum. Some people say my stuff is gone forever and all I can do now is re-deed. Others say it should be repairable. Anyone know what I should do? Should I contact a CSR? What is the purpose of an escape pod on a ship that is supposed to be indestructible? Especially if it's going to force you to lose all your stuff inside.

No, you haven't lost anything - don't worry 
When you ejected and appeared next to the station, you should have commed it and asked for repairs.. since you didn't, you'll have to find a friednly artisan, and ask them to make you a repair kit..
You then use this is on your ship (through the starship terminal) and voila

Thanks for the response.
But when I try to use the "manage" option at the starship terminal, I get the message "This is a non-combat ship and cannot be upgraded or modified." I have the repair tool in my inventory, but there seems to be no way to use it.

Ahhhh.. sorry yeah I just re-read your original post and saw that you'd already tried the manage option.. i musta missed that bit.
hmm.. I'm not actually quite sure tbh.. it seems like a loophole/bug that slipped through.
Unless anyone else here posts any ideas, I'd probably reccomend ticketing it ingame.

I wonder if a repair kit is usedthe same as a paint ? Stand in the starport, but don't use the terminal, try going to inventory and useing the repair kit. If its like a paint kit is will ask which ship you want to repair ???? I have all ways used the repair at stations, so I really don't know. And I have never blown up my yatch *snicker*, oh sorry just j/k.....good luck and safe travles...

Yeah, I tried that too but it didn't work. But thanks for the suggestion!
I submitted a ticket for this. However, when I opened the holocron, it did not show that I had any open tickets so I submitted another one. It still doesn't show that I have any open tickets. Oh well. Just one more frustrating thing.
What really burns me up is that the Escape Pod hatch should really be called "self-destruct." I can't think of any scenario where you're in the SoroSuub yacht and you would need to run down to the lower level to hit your Escape Pod button. Unless you're a passenger and you want to get off. But why would I as the owner ever need to use this damn button anyway?

Your yacht deed never goes away, so shouldn't you be able to destroy your yacht and make another? Of course, if you had stuff inside your old yacht, you'd lose that...sorry about your plight, hope you get it worked out.

Yes, the deed is still in my inventory so I could always destroy and re-deed if I wanted. Since everything I have of value is in my yacht though, I would have no desire to play anymore if I lost all of it.

The vet ship like the CE googles and flash speeder are untradable. The brilliant devs figured the additional gameplay trading of these items would generate = too much fun.

That sounds like a pretty big problem, try asking one fo your friends to submit a ticket for you, if your isnt working, maybe a csr could tell them what you need to do to fix it.
