What would you like to see in a future expansion?

I'd like to see more planets, species, and proffesions.

I'd also like to see Bounty Hunter completely revamped.

This is how I think Bounty Hunter should work. First of all, I think it should be almost (if not completely) player-driven. Here's a possible BH situation. Player A and Player B get into an argument. Player B loses that argument. PLayer B also happens to have lots of credits. So Player B goes into the cantina to lessen his anger a little. Suddenly, Player B notices his friend, Player C. Player C is a smuggler. Smugglers usually have lots of contacts. So you go and ask Player C if they know any Bounty Hunters. Player C says "Yeah I know a bounty hunter, he's right over there." So you go and talk to Player D and ask him. "Are you available for hire?" Player D says yes. So you hire out Player D to go and kill Player A. But neither you or the bounty hunter knows where Player A is. So the Player D dispatches hos truty BH droids to track him down. But to quicken the search, Player D asks aroundas to where Player A is. People are hesitant to tell Player D. So Player D slips some credits here and there that says he's a nice guy. Player D then finds out where Player A is. But somebody warned Player A about Player D. So Player A contacts Player D and offers him double for Player B. So Player D goes and kills Player B instead. Isn't that more fun and immersive than killing an NPC noone cares about from a mission given to you from an anonymous member of the Tatooine Creature Control Club?

Let me know what you guys think.

And what you think would be good for future expansions.

I'd like to see a combo of 3rd faction and a robust space trading system. After talking about JtL so much lately I got the itching to play Freelancer again and I love how the commerce is done in that.

This is gonna be a bit scrambled but this is my general idea of what it could look like.

All of this assumes that there are cargo ships with some sort of sizeable cargo hold (limited to transports instead of fighters perhaps)

The NPC driven part would look like this:

Either terminals or actual NPC's spread through cities would be contacted to acquire a contract to ship goods. The goods would be 'transfered' to the cargo hold of your ship (not actually accessible by you unless it's your cargo) at a new cargo pickup area in star ports (I'll explain why they'd be necessary in a sec). The contact for the destination is given and you're sent on your way. You would have to actually fly your ship the entire way as using commercial flights would negate your contract and you would essentially 'dump' your cargo. While flying you could come under attack from pirates on a more frequent basis than would normal flights, just to make sure things stay interesting (not automatic, could be a random spawn depending on the value of the contract). If your ship is destroyed then you would again be forced to 'dump' your cargo and lose the contract (repeated dumping of cargo could possibly accumulate something against you to add players on BH terminals). If you successfully meet your contact then you transfer the cargo to the cargo drop off at the star port and get paid.

The Player portion of this could look like this:

I haven't thought this part out as much because it seems a tad less necessary for players to run cargo for another player but it can still be used. The biggest thing I can think of would be moving large quantities of items from one planet to another. Pretty much the same mechanics of the NPC system would be done except the contact would first move all desired items to the cargo hold. This could be done by a radial menu on any item from any location but itwould have a timer of 5 mins or soto show up at the Cargo pickup area at the star port.Cargo would have a time limit on how long it could stay there before reverting back to previous position to avoid being a second bank. The contact would then assign whatever player he has hired to be able to pickup his goods (again the player could not actually use an perhaps not even see what is being transported, it only takes up space in the cargo hold). When the contact is assigning the player who will pickup the cargo he will also assign the drop-off location. If the destination is not made for the same reasons as NPC missions then the contract is killed and all cargo reverts back to either original position or cargo drop off.

The new faction: Hutt

This would allow players to play as a more criminal role in the universe, a bit seedier. This would play into the smuggling and piracy parts of the transport missions. Some NPC missions would require the transport of more valuable materials which are higher paying contracts but they make the players become TEF'd to Hutt overt faction members. Hutt members would gain Hutt faction like normal imp vs rebs when they take down ships in piracy and if an NPC mission then they'd recieve either some cargo or some of the mission credits. If a player mission then they would jsut recieve some of if not all the credits that would have gone to the player.

Running faction specific cargo would also give TEFs if scanned. In previous x-wing/tie fighter games you get close to a ship to scan it, same concept here. Smugglers would have a good chance to avoid player and NPC scans while normal players would be wide open. Taking missions from imps could either make you overt to run or low end missions stay covert. Same for rebels but a third type that has the potential for giving you a TEF if scanned by an Imperial player or NPC. If you run guns for the rebels then you stay covert until scanned by an imperial then you are busted and eitehr fight or make a run for it. Same rules of keepign the contract apply.

As for the rest of the Hutt faction a alot more would be done in the ground game for it but that's the first thoughts I had for it in the space portion.

OK I just spent WAY too much time at work typing this out so at least lemme know if you guys think it sounds good bad or you have anything to add to it

addition - Bountyhunter contracts need to be made in backalleys, out of people's sights and npc's. In imperial presence, stormtroopers can be dispatched and arrest you, or corsec, or any other security force. If npc's hear the conversation in range, the player who gets the bounty on him receives the message, and can to an image designer to change his appearance, and target will be lost.

To answer your original question, I'd very much like to be able to dock my space ship with spacestations and such.

To answer your bounty hunter idea, sorry, but that will never happen. The grief potential is much too great (and much too easy). The only way I can see a player generated bounty hunter system working is if there was a way to flag your character bounty hunterable (yeah, I know that's not a word, but it sounded cool ). Otherwise, you'd have people placing bounties on other people just for the heck of it.

This wouldn't necessarily need to happen in an expansion, but I would like to see the timeline pushed up sometime soon. I'm assuming the best chance for this to happen will be sometime after JTLS, but I'm sick of seeing Han and Chewie stand around the same Lokian cantina for a year. I want to feel like the big players in the galaxy are actually doing something other than giving theme park goers directions. Okay, little rant over

Well, I guess it would work to have to need a special TEF but that TEF would last a long time. Therefore, the person could amass the needed credits than hire a BH.

Ina future expansion (or publish{es}) I'd like to see...

  1. More planets.

  2. More vehicles (and not ones you have to do missions for, just schematics that are added to Master Artisan).

  3. More species.

  4. Pod racing.

  5. A better feel of the terror of the Empire (stronger Stormtroopers, more scannings, hostage-taking, capturing PCs for interigation, ect.)

  6. Expanding the current planets-- making them bigger and betters.

  7. A new engine for the game to help decrease some of the lag.

  8. Scars and tatoos that IDs can add to your character.

  9. Planets for each race (Kashyyyk, Ryloth, Rodia {I know I miss-spelled that}, Mon Calamari and the planet Bothans come from... not sure of what it's called).

  10. Faction enhancements so it's more fun to be a Rebel or Imperial and actually make you feel that you are a Rebel or Imperial.

  11. Ground craft like air speeders and player-driven AT-ST and AT-PT.

  12. More instanced dungeons.

  13. Dungeons for lower-level characters that aren't uber-strong.

  14. New house decorations, such as customizable furniture, flooring and wallpaper.

  15. Museum buildings people could place in their player city and wouldn't need a special skill to place.

  16. Enhanced and new weapons (I'm tired of the only good weapon a Commando has is the flamethrower).

  17. More factions (Hutt, Mercenary, maybe Black Sun).

  18. New themeparks (Cloud City, Echo Base, ect.).

  19. New clothes (capes, new cloaks, new backpacks, faction armor that actually looks like a faction).

  20. More story content (like story arcs and the like-- something so every day you log onto SWG isn't the same as the day before).

  21. Bounties placed on "bad" Smugglers that Bounty Hunters could claim-- if they can manage to kill the Smuggler. (Call me crazy, but I think it would be loads of fun!)

No, no that's not what I meant. Not a TEF, buta conscious and willingdecision by the player to make their avatar available to be the targets of BH missions.

Just make it a little check mark box on your character options screen or something.

1. Player-controlled capital ships and NPC capital ships and space stations where players can dock and trade, train and visit.

2. Player-owned space stations.

3. Asteroid bases.

4. Asteroid mining

5. Bespin/Cloud City. And thus, Tibanna gas mining.

6. Player bounties.

7. Lots of new factional and non-factional spacecraft of all sizes.

8. A way to liven up player cities and second-tier NPC cities.

9. Pilots' lounges on capital ships and space stations for aces and other elite pilots. Maybe also lounges for captains and other high-ranking fleet commanders.

10. More kinds of speeders.

11. Atmospheric flight and combat.

12. An all-GCW planet where only factional players could go. Once there, they are overt and can jump right in to GCW action. (Flame away).

13. A more sophisticated galaxy trade board system (not necessarilya game issue, i guess) that organizes goods and services by type so you can find what your looking for with a simple search instead of hunting through posts.

14. A system of contracts that allows you to loan and borrow money or to contract for goods and services. The threat of a bounty could enforce the contract, but I think having a way to post the contract publicly would be effective, too.

15. Weather effects that mean something. Mon Cals getting slightly lowered HAM in the sun but slightly increased HAM in the rain, for example. Wookies surviving cold better than others, etc.

Strong agreement on all these -- I understand that the initial release of JtL needs to focus on combat, but I hope we'll eventually see a much deeper game (using space) for the crafter/merchant player type. These suggestions (and Gamble's) are a great step in the right direction.

Incidentally, if you like the idea of player contracts, I've developed a fairly detailed proposal describing how to accomplish this -- including player bounties. The "short" version (heh-heh) is message number 15183in the Core Systems forum, titled"Player Contracts (The Short Version)." (And if you're feeling reallymasochistic, you can check out the full proposal in message 4421 in the Core Systems forum.)
