I agree, I took on a tier 4 TIE interceptor last night in my X-wing and it took me about 2-3 minutes to finish him off. Why? Had nothing to do with him outflying me, or that he was over my skill level (I'm Tier 4 by the way)... it had everything to do with me simply being unable to hit him. Normally I didn't have this trouble, but the low profiles on the TIE's make it where your shots either go around them, or miss entirely, no matter how your angle your craft when firing.
I'm considering switching to an A-wing just so I don't have to bother with my guns not hitting when I'm aimed dead on.

Nah, I have this prob with my Hutt Heavy with the two dorsal cannons mounted about a foot apart and the two "chin" guns mounted just below and on either side of the cockpit bubble. I sometimes have to lead the target significantly less than the lead target assist indicates, even on other hutt ships.

The Target lead indicator is quite useful, but you have to look at it in a different way.
For starters,
/ai reticleSelect 2
At least i thnk its that one. It's basicaly two outward pointing brackets. (inserted periods are for spacing)
]..[
not a crosshair.
+
This reticle, COMBINED with the target lead indicator does two things:
1.) Due to the nature of the brackets, you have a better representation of where your shots are acutally going. On bolt, per corner.
2.) It aids you in keeping in the same plane of motion as your target. There is an aiming point, but the target lead indicator itself is not it. Rather it seems to be when the brackets are directly under the lead indicator, as if it were holding it up.
.+
].[
Now if my littel pic formated right, try pictureing it in motion while in a lag, pure, and lead pursuit on your target.
For further illustration, a straight shot:
( + = lead indicator, ][ = your reticle.)
]+[
Try it out.

The aiming point indicator does not work most of the time. If you are aiming within the indicator, depending on the speed and trajectory of the ship you are targeting, you may or may not hit your target. I have not had any problems adjusting for this, butit isbroken all the same.
Isthere any way to shut the thing off? I know that you can change it. I also know that you can play without any indicatorson screen.I want to disablethelead indicator. If there is a way to do this please post it here! About half of the time, if youaim somewhere within the indicator you will score a hit, given those odds, I would rather "Use the Force" and just shut the dang thing off!

I don't think its broken, i think (especially if your using and x-wing or an interceptor) the problem is theres no freakin convergence zone for the lasers. (thats what made the x-wing sooooo good)

I aim about 2/3 of the distance from the ship to the reticule and about 50% of my shots hit the ship.

I'm an experienced at lead shooting from flight simulators amongst other games, and I think my problem stems from the lack of convergence on the x-wing rather than not reading the reticle properly. I can watch my shots fly on either side of him as he flips me off. Very sad.

Try to rotate your ship. I will constantly roll my ship so that my shots hit better. I also find that the AI will roll there ships to certain angles exploiting the non convergence. Next time you are right there and watching your shots go on either side of them roll your ship slightly.

Actually it works all the time.. But you have to remember one thing. IT is showing you where to aim as if the target goes in a STRAIGHT line from the current poiint. Since the system in your fighter cannot know what the other guy will do for sure it just gives you info on where he will be if he goes straight. If he turns or changes speed this changes..
Try it out and keep this in mind when you get into the turns...

If it's working but can't cope with directional changes, then it's just bad programming. Every other game I've played in has the Lead Target Assist configured to be accurate even during turns or when they are flying in circles (Like they love to do in this game as they try to get into a position to ram you.... Which is very annoying, I can't fightanything inJTL without it trying to ram me.)

Start killing stuff without targetting. After awhile, you won't need the aiming point.

I do roll very often in combat to ensure I get the best possible field of fire to hit my opponent. I tried aiming short of the reticle, long, and on the reticle and didn't have much luck in hitting the guy no matter what I did. It may have been a freak occurrence. I'll do some testing tonight in my X-wing and see if I have any luck.

Yeah, I hate having wingtip weapons systems; unless I know I'm going to be taking on something really tough, I'll usually only equipthe dorsal and "chin" guns on my Kimo.
