Pardon the Title of the post......couldnt' help myself. Ok, I have one box in Tier 4 and it is for the A-Wing cert. Now I love this little craft....it's fast....manuverable......?.......So I am a bit dissappointed in it though, now, for those Vet's or those in the same position as myself. Do you use your A-wing? or do you still use your X-wing? If you use the A-wing, what is the configuration you use. The mass on my ship is 64k which is average and it dosent hold the best stuff......so I am just looking for what you use or what your opinion is for the purpose of this craft. Thank you in advance to those to supply with good info.

First and foremost, the Awing is not a powerhouse. It is supposed to be a skirmish type of craft. Hit and run and harrasment. When used in its proper format, PvP or as bomber support in groups it is a force to be reconed with. When you start taking it out and trying to grind XP or othe such things your only going to get frustrated at its lack of firepower cababilities.

Configuration:

1).Hardly any armor, general concensus among most Awing pilots

2).Good crafted level 6 shields are what i use.

3).Level 1 reactor

4).Level 2 capacitor or a good level 1

5).I fit a level 8 gun in mine, but others may get larger

6).Level 1 droid interphase

7).I use an 88 speed engine or 75 speed

now these configurations may change due to situations. But your best bet is to try different things. not everyone flies the same or fights the same, example i have yet to load a single missle bomb or any ordinance on a single ship, ever. i also dont use countermeasures, oh well i get shot once i just hate ammo based items.

I actually love my A-Wing.

I was never a big fan of the craft in X-Wing and it's successors- always been a big X-Wing fan for nothing other than pure sexiness. At first I was pissed at 65k mass and practically having no guns, etc- but then I got into space and looked around the cockpit, jammed the throttle forward and found how fun it is to fly. So I'm really enjoying the A-Wing now.

Try this philosophy when A-Wing outfitting (mostly this explains madcow's breakdown):

1.) REACTOR: "Take only what you need to survive." Try outfiting the craft -without- installing a reactor so you can see what kind of power drain you'll have. Be sure to leave a little extra mass for the reactor- Check out the average weight of reactors, if you like, before you start outfitting so you have a good estimate of how much mass to leave. Once you've got your target power output, bingo- easy to find your part!

2.) ARMOR & SHIELDS: "The idea is to not get hit." Got a nice pair of armor plates that weigh in at 9k each and they provide just over 1k/1k Armor/HP and a nice shield generator with emphasis on recharge rating and, of course, low mass.

3.) CAPACITOR: "Like the energizer bunny- it should keep going and going." When i picked out a capacitor, of course, i was going for low mass, but the other really important element is the recharge rate!!!! Forget the actual capacitor energy- if it's big enough to handle 5 or so shots from your gun in a row, that's perfect as long as you've got a good recharge rate. Basically, I can just pull the trigger and not let go, ever. My capacitor is pretty low level but has a nice high recharge so i never have to wait to recycle energy.

4.) GUNS & LAUNCHERS: "It's my industrial strength hair dryer- and i can't live without it." I don't use missiles or torps at all- meybe i'm missing out on something, but I don't feel the loss. I have 1 gun (that's all you can install anyway) which is the element other than engine I put in first to build everything else around. The gun doesn't do as much as I'd like, but it gets the job done since (with a high recharge capacitor) it's meant to be a constant, rapid fire weapon. Countermeasures have always been an afterthought with me. If you've got the room, put it on, otherwise you might be able to rely on mister droid/computer to compensate when you get nailed by a projectile.

5.) ENGINES & BOOSTER: "Buckle up back there, we're going into Hyper-Active" The engines are best, like Madcow mentioned, higher than 70 or 75... Your A-Wing will run at (i THINK) x10 that rating, so enjoy. I just took my engine off the X-Wing and dumped it on the A-Wing and the performance jumped a lot. Maneuverability is all your call. I've thought about trying an engine with amazingly high speed and lower turning, but i like maneuverability. As for the booster, eh, that was the last piece I installed. I just looked around the galactic bazaar until I found the lightest boosters i could, then compared their ratings and chose out of them. You could just chuck it entirely if you don't feel like you need it (in favor of a better engine?).

6.) INTERFACE & FLIGHT COMP: "Dave... what are you doing, Dave?" Get your basic droid interface. How much do you use your droid, also? It's your call whether you want a high or low interface time. Mine is relatively high because I don't use my compy as much as other people might. I just went for the lowest weight so i could plug in my flight comp. And, thankfully, the flight comp itself doesn't really take anything from the ship, so have fun with that.

Hope that covered everything. Give the A-Wing a try. I keep my X-Wing around and outfitted because, as i mentioned before, it's sexy.

Happy Flying

Well, my advice is to forget armour and boosters. Only put them in if you have left-over mass and nothing else to put in.

Also, pre-nerf equipment is your friend. 92.2 speed engines with 13k mass, 500 mass 14.5 speed Droid Interface, and a nice front/back adjusted REd shield.

If you need to ask, you may not be ready to use the Awing. But to humor you, the Awing is a dogfighting ship. It is fast and manueverable. Even though it doesn't pack a good punch like a Ywing or Bwing, it will win dogfights, slowly but surely. If you are always on your opponents tail, no matter how powerful their fighter is, you will win. Don't expect to take on capital ships with this craft. Save that for a Bwing or Ywing. Now you brought up the Xwing. It was designed to be good in dogfights but also be able to take on larger ships. In a sence, it is the middleman between the Awing and the Ywing. If a Ywing is too slow and an Awing has too little mass for you, then the Xwing is what you should fly.

And people wonder why they changed how the shield adjust programs work, with people like that abusing the system.

Basicly the same formula imps use from the start, thoughI would go for minimal to no armor for a shield with high recharge rate.

also droid commands are worth gold, engine overload and weapons overload with great cap could make the differance.

It doesn't hold the "best stuff?" Welcome to the life of an Imperial pilot.

Through sheer miracle (and a lot of careful REing and crafting), I've gotten my Advanced down to a normal mass usage of 55571.6, and that's including two L4 armor plates averaging 1986 mass apiece and a 53xx weight microchaff launcher. Using a pre-nerf Mk2 spacebomb launcher, I have the hitting power of my Oppressor in a 65.9k shipframe, and even with the launcher equipped, I have roughly 6k left in mass to play with.

As for the purpose, it's the only Rebel ship that can turn as effectively as the Advanced and Interceptor. That's it's purpose. A ship better suited for PvP and medium-PvE.

Thank you all for your advice and Opinions and this will now allow me to better configure what components' go on which ship. Anybody fly a B-Wing yet?

Sure.

Equip it with your RE'd reward shield (2500+ to front/back, 16+ recharge), MKV engine (103+ speed), 4 Level 8 guns and some other fluff and you will wipe out Tier 5 gunboats in a matter of seconds.

My personal A-wing load out

1, tier 1 reactor

2 no armor

3 no shields

4 crappy flight computer

5 advanced tier 4 blaster

6 mKIII proton launcher

7 35k mass 104 engine

here is the gig, never slow down. just fly at top speed, all the time and you will be fine.

with all that said, you must be in a group of at least some tanks or else tie advanced will gank you with one or two shots, but, last night i flew this configuration with three x wings and we did all of tier 4 for this guy and i never got hit once

but alone, you need to have xwing and shields galore so, go with that.

Man, what're you complaining about? Do you have any clue how hard it is to even hit an A-wing? I'm convinced that sometimes they fly in between my quad lasers!
