Thread: A few tips for tomorrow from a beta tester

I'm trying to think of some things to help you all out for next week. Here is some thoughts:

1) When you log in check your e-mail immediately. There will be an email from each faction there there will be a waypoint to a recruiter there.

2) When you go to talk to the recruiter he will give you three planets to choose from where you will begin your training (and get missions). DO NOT choose the planet that the recruiter is on. Everyone is going to go the path of least resistance and do that because they dont want to travel. It will be more crowded and laggy there. One of the only downfalls of this system is that the area surrounding the pilot trainers can be very laggy b/c there is only 3 of them, 1 per planet.

3) The noob ship does not have a hyperdrive. You are certed right away for a Z-95, Scyk, or Light TIE. It is best to buy one off a shipwright with a hyperdrive right away. That way you can enjoy one of the best features of the expansion- the ability to travel from lok to dathomir in one hop.

4) The noob ship, believe it or not, has better stats (weapons, energy consumption, etc) than a crafted Z-95, Scyk, or Light TIE with crafted level 1 components even with high quality resources. Do your initial tier 1 missions with the noob ship. Then when you unlock the ability to use crafted level 3 components drop them into your first crafted ship. Or you could use loot drops which are pretty good at the lower levels.

5) The duty missions give good xp but you need to go to the ground to get a mission. I hate lag so I try to find stuff in space without missions. I can also get great xp by heading toward a POI in space there is usually ships there to kill.

6) You will be buying many components and at least 5 different chassis on your way up to master. We had free skills and resources all throughout beta. No one knows how much things will cost in Live. I do know this... don't pay very much for Level 1 components you will outgrow them fast.

7) When buying a chassis- there are two steps. You buy the crafted "blueprints" from a PC shipwright. You then go to the starport and then buy the deed from a NPC chassis dealer. Yes, you are buying the ship twice. A low level (tier 1) ship deed bought from the NPC costs 10k. When you are seeing shipwrights attempting to sell low level ships next week for high prices keep this in mind.

Any other Beta testers feel free to add your tips.

Good tips Ock... One more thing though.

Get any loot you find Reverse Engineered as soon as you can find a shipwright to do it. RE'ing improoves the stats on loot components. RE'ing has a 1:1 corelation of the component level and the number of matching components you need.

Example: To RE a lvl1 engine you only need one, but the improvment will be small (1%). To RE a level 3 Engine you will need 3 lvl3 engines (the names on them don't matter). It takes the best stats out of all 3 engines and makes one really good one, AND adds a 3% bonus.

Here is a tip... Please go easy on the shipwrights. They can't craft there stuff in factories, so it is all hand crafted. So don't be in a hurry to get into space and be sure to thank the shipwrights for their services.

I also suggest taking your time on the space missions. People are always in a rush to master a profession, but the real fun is in getting to master.

another tip- i know the option of a new ship is very tempting to go for, but trust me get the equipment line first, better equipment will make your lesser ship better than the higher ship with crap equipment. But at tier4 get the a-wing, lvl 8 components are only loot.

Great guide! But, I kind of take exception with tip #4. I remember the FIRST Z-95 I crafted (three weeks ago) was only marginally better than my starter Z-95. But, with all the changes they made to ships and the added 5 points of expermination they added to MSW, in the past three weeks the last Z-95 I built (yesterday) blows away the starter ship I was given.

Also the starter ship is not equipped with a hyperdrive, so you'll be stuck in one space sector. My recommendation is to stick with the starter ship for the first 4 missions. After that the duty officer will allow you to train one box for free (reguardless of XP earned). The box you should train is one for equipment certs. You'll get level 2 and 3 equipment. This will allow you to equip your first Z-95 with *some* Mark II equipment. At the very least I think it'll let you put level 3 blasters on your Z-95. Then I'd stay in *that* Z-95 until you earn the X-Wing (or level 3) cert.

Unless they fixed this...Remember where you parked your ship. You have to take off from the same location.A buddy was drunk one night playing and landed. WHen he went to take off again he didn't know where he parked the ship. To this day, he still doesn't know.

Tonight I'll recraft my Z-95 and see if number 4 is accurate or not.

Um, the ship selection screen will tell you where it's parked.

LOL! That's funny! Only because I did that as well once.

(It does tell you which starport your ship is parked at, from the starship terminal)

Actually, all he needs to do is go into a spaceport and access the launch terminal. Part of the info you get is the planet where each ship you have is located. Then it's just a matter of checking spaceports on the right world.

I HIGHLY reccomend making pilot friends/guildmates early so that you can level up together. Once you hit tier 3 you'll need them. Form a squadron / guild if you haven't already got one. While grouping mechanics are still being tweaked it is invaluable to have a wingman or 4.

Here's another tip:

In order to craft most of the high level chassis and components as SW you must use a personal crafting station. A public one doesn't cut the mustard with all the schematics (not even close). To get a personal crafting station you can have a Novice Architect build you one and place it in your house or you can have an MDE build you a droid with a star ship crafting station built into one of its module slots.

Put a personal crafting station on your yacht, point towards a calm part of space, step away from the controls and make your star ships while cruising in space.
