Thread: Suggestion: Guild Squadrons
- Squadron Logos. Each Squadron Member's ship gets the Squadron logo (selectable from a list on the Guild Terminal by the Squadron Leader or the Guild Leader) on his ship.
- Squadron Names. The Squadron Name appears in the ship description when your ship is targeted.
- Squadron Chat. When Squadron members are in the same space zone, they have an automatic chat channel, similar to Groupchat, but only for Squadron members. This channel applies only to members in the same space zone (Kessell, Dantooine, etc).
- Squadron Ranks. The Squadron Leader can assign ranks to Squadron members, and that rank is indicated on that player's ship next to the Squadron logo graphic.
- Squadron Missions. When flying together in the same zone, Squadrons can receive missions that are only for Squadrons. These missions might be simple (destroy another wing of craft) or complex (locate and defend a cruiser, then take the critical message it was carrying to another system, defending yourself along the way).
- Guild Wars. When two PAs declare a Guild War, Squadrons of the opposing guilds will automatically be overt to each other. Only Squadron members will receive this benefit.
- Kill Count. Each PvP kill is indicated on a Squadron Member's kill sheet, and a mark is affixed to their ship. There are marks for single kills, 10 kills, 100 kills, and 1000 kills. Kills will only be awarded for destruction of another player's ship, and only if that player is a squadron member of another guild (this does not require a Guild War to be in effect, only that the killed ship be a Squadron member of another PA).
- Squadron Commands. Each Squadron, when flying, is considered to be grouped. When this is the case, either the Squadron Leader, or the highest-ranked member if the Squadron Leader is not present, is the group leader and can issue Squadron Commands. These include Attack this Target (sets your target to the specified one automatically), Defend this Target (sets your target to the specified target automatically), Squadron Hyperspace (all squadron members in a zone automatically hyperspace when the leader does), and group navigation commands such as Set Waypoint and Navigate to Waypoint.
Squadron Prestige System
There will also be a Squadron Prestige System. The various Squadrons will compete with one another to complete missions, get kills, and other contests, both PvP and PvE, to achieve prestige. Squadron Prestige can be traded in for faction points, special titles (such as Wing Commander, Wingleader, etc), and other in-game benefits such as schematics and items.

The Squadron Leaders commands would work pretty much in the same way as a Squad Leaders do in the ground game?
Given that pilot requires no SP investment, what about stacking the commands in the Squad Leaders skill tree?
Y'never know, it might result in us seeing / using SL's on the ground too!

Yup, I'd support that.

I thought about it, but none of the current JtL skills require any skillpoint investment. And since from an RP perspective, ground-based combat is a huge jump from space-based combat, I figured this would just be a great incentive to get people to work in groups/squadrons for mutual benefit.

It would give new life to the "no content beyond Master" thing- this would be great content; an ongoing struggle to be at the top of the heap for Squadrons, great PvP battles that actually *mean* something besides decay... you get the idea.

I'm sure that they'll read it; I have faith that they do read what goes on in the forums to a certain extent. However, I doubt they'll respond because doing so becomes a tacit endorsement, which in many people's minds translates to "when is it gonna be in the game", and they're leery of opening that can of worms.
I do hope they like the idea, obviously. I don't expect that it would be trivial to do any of these things, but I think this or something very like it would be a huge boon to JtL and a real fun addition for all players.
JimerLins wrote:I'd like to see if it's possible to add something to the Guild/PA system- Guild Squadrons. My conception of the system works like this. This is my description of it as it would be implemented in a perfect world.PAs can Create SquadronsEach PA can create Squadrons using the Guild terminal. A Squadron must have a name and a Squadron Leader. A Squadron Leader is assigned at the same time the Squadron is created, and can be changed later by the Guild leader or the Squadron Leader, as a transfer of power. However, only a member of the Squadron can become a Squadron Leader. All members of the Squadron must be JtL-enabled, of course. Further, all members of a Squadron must either be the same faction or mixed faction and Privateer- no Rebel/Imperial mixes. Squadron members can remove themselves from the Squadron at any time using the /removeSquadron command. Removing yourself from the guild or being removed by the guild leader automatically removes you from the Squadron.Number of Squadrons limitedThe number of Squadrons per PA is limited as a function of the number of JtL-enabled members of the PA. For each 20 JtL-enabled PA members, a single Squadron can be created. If the number of JtL-enabled players drops, existing Squadrons will not be removed or disbanded, but no more Squadrons will be able to be created until the number of players rises sufficiently. There will be a hard cap of 3 Squadrons per PA regardless.Squadron BenefitsBeing in a Squadron will confer certain benefits:
- Squadron Logos. Each Squadron Member's ship gets the Squadron logo (selectable from a list on the Guild Terminal by the Squadron Leader or the Guild Leader) on his ship.
