Fighters are great, fighters are grand, we love fighters.
But wouldn't it be awesome if there were more ships than just fighters? Yes, I know, the Decimator, YT-1300, etc. are not fighters. But they're also all master-level ships.
How about we bring in player freighters? Perhaps, even, player cruisers? I know capital ships are far too big for the game to handle (an ISD requires a skeleton crew of 5000, I believe), but there are many ways to enhance the space experience without resorting to "bigger guns = more player love."
Player freighters - an offshoot of my Piracy idea, what if players could own and fly freighters? Game benefits - extra storage (say, 200 item limit, or maybe add another statistic to them - 'Freight' that allows them to be interacted with on the starship terminal as if you were accessing a harvester or factory), perhaps a way to incorporate player missions into the game - while it would be interesting figuring out a way to convince freighter players to intentionally make themselves targets for pirates, this could make for some fun PvP.
Player cruisers - big ships designed for use as heavy artillery and fighter support. Very slow, pretty big (say, a fourth of the size of an ISD), multipassenger in the style of YT-1300s, Decimators, Sorosuub Luxury Yachts, etc., and has multiple modules that can be installed at creation by a Shipwright (in the style of Droid Engineers) - medical modules (great for healing/buffing in space while waiting to board that enemy freighter), heavy combat modules (add turrets), crafting modules (hey, they DID make a cybernetic hand for Luke on a cruiser in the movies), hanger modules (allow players to store their own ships on the cruiser and launch from it), heck, even entertaining modules - add a bar or something to the ship.
Thoughts?

First I think they need to make MP ships worth having.
At the moment, all the equipment in-game is Fighter equipment.
We need some heavier stuff before we add more ships into the equation.

I think that SL's should beable to use a shuttle.
Imperial could use Imperial shuttles and so on
SL could then fly to a system and then choose to drop off teh passagers anywhere on the planet the SL himself woul dhave to then land in a starport but they could use the same animation they use when Stormtroopers are dropped off by the shuttles and just have all the passagers spawn at that location. then the SL spawns in the starport he chooses.

once you have a freight capable ship, you should be able to get delivery mission from ground terminals.

meh, might as well just make the starport terminal the ability to give you frieghter missions. this would allow a new source of income and would be fun, give you something to do and let your friends help you and escourt you. and it shouldn't be from ground terminals because that wouldn't make sense, thats for ground not space. but more ships is allways a good idea. also we should make the capitil ships worth having and have them more fun and powerfull. fighters just rip them apart right now. well, after mp ships are fixed it would be awsome to incorpirate more ships like it. well, thats my thoughts. good ideas all.

I personally think that simple shuttles/transports would be a good idea. Although there's not really any use for it at the moment, a gameplay mechanic that allows it to drop its passengers at any Starport or Shuttleport might be added, perhaps? Or, maybe, a person on the ground could place a landing beacon in the wilderness for the shuttle to land and passengers to climb out?

Greetings,
I personally have taken people on hunts myself on my Sorosuub Yacht. It has a bar, where I'm planning to sell brandy, and people generally enjoy themselves on board before being dropped off on Dant. for a hunt. I'm becoming a regular taxi (I even got a 10k tip last night from one person) and I think the edition of freighters would be an excellent idea, but there needs to be experience for each mission - otherwise people will go back to flying fighters.
The addition of modules would be great and would add another dynamic to the game. There is still the issue of de-centralisation. Theed is empty now compared to the old days - there need to be good reasons to go to cities. I enjoyed going to Theed when it was a bustling metropolis instead of a bunch of LDs hanging around outside. At least with Coronet you have a central link to most planets meaning even with JTL, people still tend to hang around the Star Port there. Maybe place pick-up missions at major cities for NPCs to be taken somewhere safely for reasonable cash (or is there something similar to this already in place?). At least to brings the pilots down to the ground for some time.

I agree big time ,especially on the freighter side of things , how can you have a galaxy wide spacefaring community with no spacesde transport industry ???i spose in a way they are alreadty there , the sorosub an the yt1300 , with players transportin other players about an gettin tips , but there need s to be more freighters , cos I know it sounds lame but some people like that sort of thing , non combat moneymaking proffs , some players may prefer to stay in space most of the time an run cargo an taxi missions , or even become asteroid miners , its not all about combat , all the other noncombatants may complain that if you openup a whole new area of commerce in space it will break them , but hey thats business aint it , it would bve a big addition i think , but like i said , there are only criminal and warcraft in space at the mo , surely there should be private an business/commerce shipping too......

i agree again with the idea of player owned shuttles ,have them available in starports as an alt to using the ingame transport an so put player money back into the economy , its there already in a way with the sorosub an yt1300 if you wanna transport buddies for tips ,

I'm not sure transports would work - really, we already have those, in the way of the Sorosuub and the YT-1300 - but there could be "transport missions" where you could transport people or goods for a fee. Not sure how it would work, since people with JtL can transport instantly right now anyway...there's more potential in transportation of goods.
Also, regarding the "emptiness" of the big cities....on my server, Chilastra, Coronet and Theed are still heavily populated at most times during the day, and it's still hard to move around in Coronet during peak time. I don't think JtL has "decentralized" the game, as you put it.

I tried carrying other players on my sorosub, only JTL players could launch and run around the ship, but I could travel with non-jtl players.
If they allowed non-jtl players to ride on ships (but not own or fly them) then maybe we'd be able to run a viable taxi or party boat business.

JTL has done one thing, begin to decentralize the game. Coronet and Theed used to be major places of trade, because essentialy those were the only two space ports one could get anywhere from. This seems to gradually be fading. I have gone weeks without stepping in either of these cities. While this may be a good thing, the ability to travel to PCs and shuttle ports with a freighter landing would only make this worse, and could possibly be hard to implement and heavily tax the server's recources. Even moreso with the ground landing.
I like the idea of being able to buff in space, and play music. Riding to dath in a sorusub seems like the perfect way to get ready for a rancor hunt, or to lok for a kimo hunt. This could be a fun thing for many guilds.
I also would like to see the ability for some large ships to possibly have a docking bay. Although it may not end up bieng very realistic, there are numerous times I've wanted to jettison from a multiplayer ship and hop into my own x-wing, and to quote Julius Caesar, "Cry Havok and let slip the dogs of war".
Another potential idea (although very unrealistic) is a merchant ship. Allow people to buy items in space, by docking, which could pull up a vendor list or something of the like.
