Thread: Factional Fleet support...make it MORE than just as pilots...make it Capital ship production!

As I have returned from a vacation from Galaxies....I am enjoying the fun of the old Tie Fighter VS X-Wing Star Wars game that I used to have. (good job SWG Dev Team)
While still very wet behind my pilot ears....I am looking forward to the upcoming missions and future growth of this section of SWG engine.
I did though revisit my old friends post on my website that he long ago spoke about his thoughts on JTL options....and it looks like one major thought isnt in the rangefinder for my fun and/or future. The way Shipwrights had the ability to support thier Factional side in terms of helping build up Armadas and the like so that the Faction could control a space travel route or planetary blockade etc.
Below is the link to the post (it is tooo big for here on this forum and the huge number of graphic parts would not fit on Sony's website forums....so I hosted it for Colin Mor) While the JTL trees are in game now....please just focus on the IDEA thought about FLEET SUPPORT and CAPITAL SHIP construction etc.

I still now agree that since LAND based control is contingent on the performance and control aspect of the PLAYERS themselves....so should the space routes and/or planetary blockades. (while one faction could lose a planet control...they could then work to reduce support/supply ships by creating a blockade in space....akin to Star Wars Episode I)
These same Capital ships that could be built up by Players in Colin's thoughts....would then become targets for the enemy factions as well as bases of operations for GCW missions in orbit of the planet OR within the trade routes of the star system.....thus providing a potential TRUE domination of the Galaxy by a faction.
The potential of forcing combinations of massive player productions to build the uber ships would foster more community interactions and heck.....put the players to work for the DEVS...in building thier "special In Character Ships" they could then utilize in an event of the GCW.
In summary.......lets put the PLAYERS to work in building and supporting the Factional FLEETS.......let the Galaxy be up for some great space battles!!!!
Example.....
Rebel Shipwrights and Guilds begin a massive deployment operation to take complete control of the Naboo trade routes and blockade the planet (where the Emperor currently is residing)
Rebel Capital ships are noticed and thier Fleet begins to grow in the Naboo orbit.
Imperial Guilds are notified via factional memorandums.......they begin to support and order thier Imperial Shipwrights to increase production to launch a counter strike Fleet.
Imperial Pilot Missions are posted to begin attacking the Rebel Fleet trying to establish a blockade of Naboo
Rebel Pilot Missions are posted to support the Rebel Fleet.
Will the Imperial Fleet arrive in time and with enough firepower to defend and eliminate this threat to the Emperor's designated retreat planet?
THE PLAYER SUPPORT will decide........
Sure we could just do that with pilots in fighters over missions......but to be BUILDING and to be RESPONSIBLE for the Fleet Capital ship and the fleets compliment.......now THAT is what SUPPORT is.......or is not.
Additionally it would still be a hoot to see/hear about HUTT
aligned player guilds taking over a trade route or planetary system FULL of important resources......hehehe
Now THAT would spark up the other 2 major Factions......Imperial
and Rebel

As a master shipwright, artisan and architect, I don't have any skill for ground combat. The ability to band together with massive armadas would be the best thing for JTL since.....Launch. The entire concept has my approval.

Sorry if it was already stated in the thread you posted, but how about tying the planetary control into the mix? Like the shipwrights have to complete the ship within say three weeks (like the village), and if they have all the components done by then it launches, but it is only availableto be built if that faction controls the planet. If the planet falls while the ship is already under construction, that faction then has to take back the planet within, say, five days or else the entire factory is destroyed. And like the thread says, once a capital ship s built it launches and maybe patrols the sector, or perhaps merely increases that faction's presence in the area via gunships and high tiered ships, and the capital ship can be accessed via a space station so it doesn't cause so much lag. Like I said, I don't know if it was all already stated-didn't go to the link, lol- but it has my approval lol.

Would be nice....no it wouldnt...it WOULD BE AWSOME to glance up after a capital ship was provided to the factional fleet managment NPC.....seeing your hard work begin the slow impressive launch upward into space. (Star Wars Episode II ending)
Nice comments.
And yes....I do agree with you on how Colin Mor states the use of the NON Combat role of Shipwright (crafter-support role) would get a more direct ability to help affect the faction they have pledged thier lives to.....or if they just want to make some booty for workin for the HUTTS hhehe.

yup yup yup. cap ship is something that the devs definately need to implement and the suggested way here with shipwrights is AWESOME.
i have noticed a definate shortage of active shipwrights of late and this would bring a huge boom to their numbers.
also, i was thinking that like ground bases, you could have different types... like say a corvette. then, you can spend more resources and get a combat cruiser. spend more, get a mon calamari cruiser.
for imps, start with a corvette, then Victory Class star destroyer, Imperial Class, and maybe for some entirely unreasonably high amount of resources... a Super Star Destroyer.
LOVE THE IDEAS! this is a great post with ideas and content that could have HUGE impacts on the pvp aspect of JTL as well as raise the number of SWG players that have active JTL accounts as well. this is something i would love to see, as i was majorly disappointed by the small number of JTL players when compared to ground players. i dont know how things are on other servers, but eclipse is almost impossible to get JTL pvp out of.
LISTEN TO THIS MAN! erm... well the guy he posted for anyways... HE HAS GREAT IDEAS!

Yep. Great ideas.
I loved the original idea of allowing multiple crafter classes being able to contribute to the production of a capital ship... and then having an entire guild support its function in space!
Huge capital ship space battles! Star Destroyers blockading Corellia as it has fallen under a rebel revolt.....
The space part of the game has such great possibilities! I truly hope the devs can add a lot to it!

yup.....Colin did indeed.
Had alot right on the button and some things that might improve things.....time will tell how it all evolves aye?
Colin has a record in the UO game engine of over 400 idea/suggestions that made reality over the years of that game.
I spoke to him and he said the most simple idea was cutting cloth into bandaids in one click instead of over and over and one of his babies of evil is the Ore Elementals....he started that all on I think on Nappa long long ago....
What I heard was one of his old contact/bosses left UO and went to Sony to work on SWG....hope he can hook up again with him.
They got alot done in the right direction together....I believe Ignatz was his boss in UO then....have to check with him again. (goes to call Colin if I can find phone number)
