So I have been 'fully templated' Jedi now for months, and spend most of my time on all the small quests and big ones too helping folks. I have personal polictical bias against the Jedi system, simply because it promotes and encourages a bully system. George Forbid that someone would want to play a Jedi ina Star Wars game, but even all the decaying skills of the Jedi has not discouraged me from my fun noob quests and some of the other premium content that can be found for groups (the corvettes now rock, the Hracca Gladecan bequite a challenge). So for me I am not filling the corners of my SWG dinner, by playing every quest I can from noob deliveries to the Avatar platform.

The one thing I regret, is not really being able to play all the different professions. I really liked hologrinding, and I thought it good for the economy since people were always buying resources and making goods to sell cheap to grind out professions. Now I only managed 3 holos, but the idea of trying out the game was fun. So then comes Respecs. Yeah, most folks used respecs to jump into a higher class they did not want to grind, but I did spend some time in test center and in game, trying out new professions. Well, here is my idea. Let's keep respecs with a differnet set of rules. Now if you want to go and try your luck as a pikeman, you can drop your other master class and start grinding. Then when you have the love of long hard sticks out of your system, you move on to the next profession. If you decide later that your group really needs a pikeman again for area knockdowns, since you achieved master and got the badge, you can now 'respec' back to parts or all of it.

So the idea is that as you move through professions, you gain livelong skills. You can choose 250 points worth to use on any given adventure (and in all likelyhood it will be limited to once a day or once every 3 hours or something) based on all the work you have done in the past. So, there is a reward built in for being in the game a long time, and there is a goal for new players completing the quests or simply with nobody around to do the hard ones. Plus, it may even give Jedi in the game a new life, since we can choose to leave behind the robes and go into hiding (can someone say Obi-Wan) maybe craft some landspeeders or take up bow hunting, then some day reemerge when duty calls. I would bet most Jedi would not mind getting away from it all every once in a while if it did not mean giving up months of work.

So consider away. I think it is very workable whether it means limiting the number of times you can change, or requiring XP to be gained to do so, or what I think is a grand idea, having your skills 'decay' like structures, where if you don't go out periodicially and use those long ago learned skills, then you start loosing them. So say once a month you must jump over to a skill and gain a few hundred K xp to keep them (or at least master). That becomes an even better plot point, cause you can start over (or not, I don't want to grind chef again) with everyone at 0 skills, and call it cause we all forgot to keep up or XP 8).
