Why do people still insistthat jedi should be more powerful than everyone else in a game that simply cannot support it balance wise?

Because they are more powerful in the movies. The fantasy of being a Jedi is learning, managing, wielding and bearing the brunt of the choices of power.

However movies are tightly scripted events. Games like Jedi Knight and Jedi Power battles are single player and/or limited multiplayer games. In each case, the game experience is tightly crafter and managed so that the player has a fulfilling experience.

Massively Multiplayer games are a different breed altogether. Balancing Jedi in an MMO could be considered the Gordian Knot of MMO game design for sure.

Each person will have their own views, their own desires, their own concerns and their is a universe of philosophy in between each point and will most likely go on being discussed for many many years.

This statement alone tells me that the dev's have absolutely no idea what to do with jedi in this game. A tangled mess so complicated that it is impossiblefor them to unravle it.Will jedi be sliced off just as thegordian knot was?

The sad part is, he can say "each person has their own views all he wants".

They GAVE US our VIEWS. When it was first said by a dev that a "Jedi can take down a group of 20 no problem", then it changed over a year later to, "Jedi will be 1.5 times stronger".

All lies, and visions that were GIVEN to US.

Yeah but you guys know this could not stay this way... in fact some of your buddies and guildys Im sure cried back then when we had this power, I won't lie to you and tell you it was not great and worth the risk vs reward... instead I will tell you between the Devs making it easy to get over time and patch 9 to the CU with the one month grind this was forseen so while some of you old players that saw us old Jedi and thought,"Man that is the Jedi I want"... well, sorry it's gone trust me I want it back but there is no way it is coming back.

If they were to ever try to make us rare and powerful again I think the game would die in a couple months. Too many people cried, moaned, screamed about us-- In fact some people that are Jedi now crying are some of those people belive it or not.

It's to bad, some of you old players that saw us and helped us are the ones I wish could get a chance at that old class.. it truely was fun, scarey half the time and so damn rare and fun. Hell, I hid on Dathomir where the village is lol-- I was grinding there for a while... I do miss it and I have some great screen shots to look back on but I can tell you this, the DEVs did not do all of the damage-- please dont think that, some of the player base did this as well... out of jealousy and hate... and you can see alof of that on the BH boards to this day. Not all... just some.

In the context of new development methods adopted within the past year by the studio responsible for Star Wars Galaxies, which a year ago saw several drastic changes to the game-world's overall experience, SOE's John Blakely and Todd Fiala issued a warning: "Don't make our mistakes."

Game over. SWG has finally come to a place where it really, truly is just running on fumes. I agree with the OP on this: TH's comments reveals that SoE really is clueless at best and disingenuous at worse where this game is concerned.

But jedi AREN'T balanced, in fact, every profession has access to things that make them better than we could ever hope to be. Our weapons depend on high level loot that doesn't exist, they've got casings, power cells, krayt tissues, power ups, and a helluva lot lower SAC than we can ever achieve.

If they increased the power of our weapons to be on par with others and let us achieve a lower SAC so we can actually have some action to do something every now and then (especially with the upcoming action cost addition to breathing) we'd be a little bit better off and closer to the real professions

Its been a long year...
